Residential permit applications soon to be accepted online

As part of The City’s eServices portfolio, Development & Building Approvals (DBA) is launching its largest online service to date with Residential ePermit. The new online tool will provide a start to finish service for contextual single and semi-detached residential permits, from application to final inspection that will maintain The City’s high standards of safety. “We’re going to make it easier to do business with The City”, notes Kevin Griffiths, Chief Building Official and Manager of Building Regulations. “Customers will have the ability to submit an application online, upload required documents and track the progress of their application using a single project number”, says Kevin. 

                                                            

Development & Building Approvals is working closely with its customers to bring all contextual single and semi-detached residential permits online during four scheduled releases in 2013. The first release on April 30^th will make single construction permits in developing areas available online to a small number of high volume home builders. “These first few builder submissions will be used to further improve the online tool, test the new paperless process and train additional employees before a customer wide release is announced,” says Kevin.

 

The City is grateful for the involvement of the Canadian Home Builders’ Association – Calgary Region during this first release. The association and its members participation has been instrumental in helping create an online tool that meets the needs and expectations of customers. “Cutting red tape by streamlining the permit process is of utmost importance to our members”, say Charron Ungar, President of CHBA-Calgary Region. “We share the City’s enthusiasm for this project and look forward to the wider release to come”.

 

In addition to bringing residential permits online, Residential ePermit will implement a single residential permit process combining the contextual development permit and the building permit into a single application. A single project number will eliminate the need for multiple Job Access Codes, greatly improving customer convenience. In addition, the single permit processes well enable more collaborative reviews and decisions within the DBA business unit. DBA will continue to work closely with its customers to develop the new single permit process on an ongoing basis.

 

Residential ePermit will become available through The City’s View Information Specific To your Application (VISTA) online program.
