Request a Mail-in (Special) Ballot for the 2013 General Election

As of July, eligible electors can request a Mail-in (Special) ballot for the 2013 General Election. Individuals who are physically unable to go to a voting station to vote because of a disability or illness, individuals who are working, vacationing or studying away from their place of residence, as well as election or campaign workers can request a Mail-in (Special) ballot if they are unable to vote during the Advance Vote, October 9 – 13 & 15 – 16, or on Election Day.

The City Election & Information Services Office is now accepting requests for Mail-in (Special) ballots continuing until the close of voting on Election Day. Requests can be made through one of the following options:

Online through Calgary.ca/election and submit an online ballot form
Telephone – 403-476-4100 (option 2)

New this year, eligible electors can select an early mailing option. If an early mailing option is selected, electors will receive their Mail-in (Special) ballot package before September 23, 2013, but it will not include the candidate list. If electors choose this option, it is their responsibility to have access to the internet following Nomination Day, September 24, after 12 (noon), to complete their Mail-in (Special) ballot.

Otherwise, ballots and information packages will be mailed to requestors beginning September 24, 2013, following Nomination Day. Ballots must be returned in the envelope provided and received by the Elections Office no later than 8:00 p.m. on October 21, 2013, in accordance with the instructions.

Electors are also required to include a photocopy of an authorized form of identification with their Mail-in (Special) ballot. A list of authorized identification can be located at Calgary.ca/election.

October 21, 2013 is Election Day for all eligible electors. This Election will mark the change from three to four year term of office for elected officials and a change of title from Alderman to Councillors. Calgarians elect 1 Mayor, 14 Councillors, 7 Calgary Board of Education trustees, 7 Calgary Catholic School District trustees.
