Registration for winter Recreation programs kicks off

This winter – get active!  The City’s Winter Recreation Program Guide is online and on stands now.  There are more than 3,000 registered programs and 6,500 drop-in opportunities to choose from this season. Whatever your interest is, there’s something for you.

With the new online My Rec Guide, registration has never been easier.  It allows you to build your own customized guide based on your interests, location and age.  In addition, it can be translated into 71 languages.  Registration begins November 18 and spots fill fast.

“Being active has physical, social and emotional benefits,” says Shelley Shea, manager in Recreation.  “If your kids see you having fun while being active, they are more likely to see games, activities and sport as a normal and worthwhile part of life.”

The guide is filled with opportunities that range from youth nights at the leisure centres, art programs, free Calgary AfterSchool programs, to special events such as the New Year’s Eve Dance Party.

In addition, there are several fun winter holiday day camps to help families keep busy over the break.  For example, you can register your children in Stop, Drop & Shop, which would allow you to get your holiday shopping done while your kids enjoy crafts, games and activities.

“Enjoy the benefits of a healthy mind and body,” adds Shea. “Parent and baby classes, dance classes, yoga classes, kickboxing - there’s a program for everyone!”

Come out and have some fun.  There’s more than you think with The City of Calgary Recreation.

Register online at calgary.ca/recreation or by calling 403-268-3800.
