Quarry Park and Great Plains recreation facilities information session

Calgarians are invited to an information session  on June 18 to see the preliminary designs, meet the facility operators and learn more about the new Quarry Park and Great Plains recreation facilities. The Quarry Park facility will serve the needs of both residents and employees in the surrounding communities and business parks and the Great Plains facility will be a competitive tournament facility that brings together ice sports enthusiasts from across the city.

 

“We previously asked Calgarians what amenities they wanted so each facility could be designed to meet the needs of each community,” said Rob McAuley, manager of the New Recreation Facilities project. “It’s very exciting for us to be able to share with the public how their input was used and what they can expect to see as construction of both facilities begins this fall.”

 

The session will run from 5 - 8 p.m. at the Riverbend Community Association located at 19 Rivervalley Drive S.E. It is a drop-in event featuring display booths, representives from GEC Architecture, Marshall Tittemore Architects, the Public Art Program, YMCA Calgary, Canlan Ice Sports and the Calgary Public Library. Members of the New Recreation Facilities project team will also be available to answer questions.

 

Four new recreation facilities in southeast and northwest Calgary are being developed to meet our growing city’s need for convenient access to recreation opportunities and support the important role recreation plays in building complete communities. Each facility is being designed to meet the specific needs of each community, with the vision and  proposed amenities determined through extensive engagement with Calgarians, community leaders and numerous sports and cultural advisory groups.
