PSA: Transforming Planning announces online workshops for a new planning system

How should we plan and build Calgary in the future? Give us your best ideas!
Transforming Planning invites you to participate in our ONLINE Workshops for a New Planning System, a series of web-based discussions about how we plan and build our city. These conversations will directly inform the creation of Transforming Planning’s Outline of a New Planning System version 0.4, to be unveiled mid-May, as well as our final version 1.0, to be presented to Calgary City Council in July.

This is your chance to directly shape Calgary's future. But it won't last forever: hosted on our website, workshops will change every two weeks, ending the first week of June, so check back often to see what people are saying and share your ideas.

Workshop #1: April 15-April 26, 2013
GUIDE/ALIGN: Implementing Calgary's planning vision

Workshop #2: April 29-May 10, 2013
LEARN: Creating an adaptive system

Workshop #3: May 13-May 24, 2013
ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES #1: early collaboration for best outcomes

Workshop #4: May 27-June 7, 2013

How can The City, communities and applicants work together to create better working relationships in implementing Calgary's planning vision?
What are the best, most effective junctures for community involvement?
How can we build integrity and transparency into the planning process?

ABOUT Transforming Planning

Transforming Planning is a partnership between stakeholders and City staff to design and deliver a high-performing planning system for Calgary. Transforming Planning was launched in June 2012 by The City of Calgary’s Planning, Development & Assessment (PDA) department in response to a Council directive to undertake a broad-scale review of the planning process. As part of PDA’s “nextCITY” concept for delivering Calgary’s planning vision, Transforming Planning will engage City staff and stakeholders – industry, communities and citizens – to design and deliver a new planning system that will help build a vibrant, prosperous and sustainable city for everyone. Very few cities in North America have attempted to re-envision and transform their planning system on this scale.
