Media Advisory: Partners in Water Safety remind citizens of risks on Calgary waterways

The City of Calgary invites media to join Partners in Water Safety—a collaboration of the Calgary Fire Department (CFD), Calgary Police Services (CPS) and Community Standards—as they kick off the water recreation season on the Bow River. The Partners will perform water safety demonstrations and media will be invited onto the CPS and CFD watercrafts for a guided tour of nearby river hazards.

In 2016, the Calgary Fire Department performed 62 rescues on Calgary’s waterways. Swift water rescues, in particular, increased 25 per cent from 2015.

Where: Bow River waterfront behind Eau Claire Station 6 (weather permitting), 360 8 Street SW
In the event of rain, the availability will be held inside Station 6

Spokespeople will be available for interview following the introductory address.
