Live Debate – How should The City use $52 Million? with “Provocateur” Brett Wilson

Calgary, AB… Entrepreneur, author and TV personality Brett Wilson will play the role of “provocateur” in a debate among Aldermen concerning the relative merits of the five options proposed by Council for the $52 million tax room.

Wilson will be asking aldermen the kind of tough questions he asks entrepreneurs on CBC-TV’s “Dragon’s Den.” The event will be hosted by Mayor Naheed Nenshi.

The five options and their representative champions are:

“Let the buses roll!” Creating a new capital fund for Calgary Transit – Alderman Diane Colley-Urquhart
“Give business a break!” Reducing non-residential property taxes – Alderman Gord Lowe
“Revitalize our communities!” Investing in maintenance and upgrading of older neighbourhoods – Alderman John Mar
“Drop the debt!” Reducing The City’s debt and annual interest payments – Alderman Richard Pootmans
“Give it back!” Lowering the tax that homeowners pay – Alderman Peter Demong

The debate gets underway on Tuesday, May 28 at 12:00 noon in the Devonian Gardens, The CORE Shopping Centre (formerly TD Square), 324 8^th Avenue S.W.
