Evergreen Link Fire Turns Fatal

Early this afternoon one of the victims of the Evergreen fire passed away. The victim is a female believed to be 35 years of age. She was pulled from the fire by members of the Fire Department shortly after they arrived on scene. An adult male and two children had escaped the fire on their own and informed firefighters that there was still a person in the house. As the firefighters attacked the fire on the main floor the home, another crew began a search through the smoke filled residence to locate the woman. Using thermal imaging cameras the firefighters searched and located the victim on the floor of a bedroom on the second floor of the home. She was carried to the outside and immediately turned over to AHS for medical care. The adult male and two children were also aided by Paramedics and taken to local hospitals. The adult male remains in serious condition at this time. Detectives with of the Calgary Police Service Arson Unit and Fire Department investigators are still on scene investigating the cause of the fatal fire. It is believed at this time to have started in the kitchen area. It is unknown at this time if the home had operating smoke detectors. This is part of the investigation. The Calgary Police Service is also actively locating and informing family members of the tragedy. Updates on the cause of the fire and conditions of the other victims will be released as the information becomes available.
