Downtown core open for assessment

Most of the downtown core, north of 17 Ave. S., has been opened for assessment by building owners.

A small number of areas remain under water and cannot be accessed by owners.

Building owners only will be allowed to enter the core area to conduct these assessments. The area will not be open to the general public.

A process for reporting the results to The City is being developed and will be communicated later today.

The electrical grids downtown require that relatively large areas be declared clear before electrical power can be reactivated to any part of the area. The exception to this would be buildings with their own power generating capabilities.

Owners should be aware that even in areas which did not experience overland flooding, a high water table may have resulted in basement flooding. Given the scope of current flooding, The City can provide pumping assistance to residential properties only.

Once building assessments are complete and power restored, final evaluations will be conducted by City resources before the area can be fully opened to the public.

The City hopes that owner assessments can be complete Sunday and Monday. This could permit residential occupancy late Monday and possible full occupation by Tuesday.
