Devonian Gardens to remain open while warranty repair work underway

Efforts are underway to repair leaks in some of the planters constructed during the renovation of Devonian Gardens. The City of Calgary Parks identified the leaks during warranty work to address minor deficiencies in the renovations. The gardens will remain open to the public while work is carried out and event bookings will proceed as planned.

 

“Devonian Gardens underwent a $37 million capital renovation and reopened to the public last June,” says Doug Marter, City of Calgary Parks manager responsible for overseeing the repair work. “We’re now in the warranty repair phase which will include repairing some of the planters that have been identified as leaking. This work will require the temporary removal of trees, shrubs and groundcovers from the affected planters.”

 

To minimize disruption to programming and public access to the Gardens, planters will be assessed and repaired one at a time. Assessment work will focus first on the planter located next to the space dedicated for a restaurant. Repairs and replacement of the plants will immediately follow the assessment and findings used to complete warranty work required elsewhere in the gardens as soon as possible.

All costs associated with fixing the leaks are covered by warranty. The contractor will be responsible for removing plants to other areas of the garden and caring for them while repairs are carried out.

 

“Devonian Gardens is a popular event space and the work required will be scheduled around bookings,” says Marter. “To ensure public safety, there may be limited access to areas where repair work is occurring but the gardens remain open for all Calgarians to enjoy. We are committed to minimizing disruption as much as possible.”
