Civic Census Online 2015
Count yourself in. New this year, the civic census will be available online from April 1 to 24, 2015. Calgarians will receive an access code in the mail which can be used on calgary.ca/census to complete their census online.
“We ask that all Calgarians take a couple of minutes to participate in the civic census online,” said Paul Denys, Leader Election and Census. “It’s fast and simple. Census data is important to The City of Calgary as it helps us make informed decisions regarding transportation, recreation and many other City services.”
This year, the census will be used to gather information on the total number of residents, home owners, pre-school aged children, and school system support. This information is used by The City for the planning of services used every day, such as roads, transit, and water services. It is also used by the public and separate school boards for enrolment predictions, decisions on future schools, and by the provincial government for determining per capita grant allocations where available.
The access codes will be mailed to residents of Calgary during the last week of March and must be used to complete the census online.
If residents are unable to complete the census online, door-to-door census collection will begin on May 1, 2015. If residents are missed during the collection period, they are asked to call the Election and Information Services office at 403-476-4100 (option 3) to provide their information over the phone.
All information provided during this process is confidential and secure. When releasing census data, individuals and dwellings are never identified. Instead, information is available on a city-wide basis or by geographic areas such as communities. The 2015 census results will be available approximately three months after census collection is complete.
