City of Calgary hosts information session on the redevelopment of Currie Barracks

The City of Calgary is reporting back to citizens on changes to the proposed Currie Barracks redevelopment, following public engagement sessions held in 2014.

“We heard what citizens had to say about the proposal, now we want to let the public know how its feedback was used, what has changed in the application and what will be included in the recommendation to Calgary Planning Commission,” says Craig Sklenar, senior planner with The City’s Planning Department.

The City is hosting an information session at Clearwater Academy’s Athlone Hall on Feb. 25. A series of panels will highlight the applicant’s changes to proposed building heights, density, road networks, open space plans and other details. City staff from various departments will be on hand to discuss application details and answer questions.

The City is reviewing a proposal from Canada Lands Company to change the type of development allowed on the west side of Currie Barracks. If approved by City Council, the proposal would allow for a medium-density mix of retail space, office space and residential space, along with a network of open spaces and pathways.
