City of Calgary 2012 Annual Report online

April 25, 2013 – Council approved the 2012 City of Calgary Annual Report and financial statements earlier this week, which received an unmodified opinion from the external auditor, Deloitte & Touche. The report is now posted online at www.calgary.ca/annualreport.

“The 2012 Corporate Annual Report continues to emphasize corporate governance, accountability, transparency and full disclosure consistent with Canadian best practices applicable to Municipalities. It provides a comprehensive view of the 2012 consolidated financial statements and highlights accomplishments delivered to improve the lives of Calgarians’ and their interactions with The City”, says the Chief Financial Officer, Eric Sawyer.

The 2012 consolidated financial statements reflect strong population and economic growth, which continues to drive demand for City infrastructure and services. Strong fiscal management is also confirmed by The City’s current credit ratings - identified among the best for Canadian Municipalities by Standard & Poor’s and the Dominion Bond Rating Service.

In addition to providing financial information for The City of Calgary, the report entitled “Engagement. Achievements. Building a Better City.”, focuses on accomplishments that we — citizens and the municipal government —achieve in building a community that we’re proud to call our home.

Highlights included in the 2012 accomplishments, feature examples of service improvements, innovative initiatives and awards that show how The City is working to deliver programs and services that citizens want while spending tax dollars effectively. This is part of a larger picture that focuses on how City Council is continuing to deliver on the commitments made in its Fiscal Plan for Calgary - whether it’s in building better communities, getting Calgarians moving or making our city a great place to start and grow a business. And, citizen survey results show that citizens agree that Calgary is getting even better.

Onward/The 2012 Annual Report highlights the ways in which we’re creating meaningful, accessible conversations with citizens.
