Citizens are invited to provide feedback on plans to redevelop Stanley Park

Calgary, AB – The City of Calgary Parks is encouraging the public to review design concepts and proposed management strategies intended to revitalize Stanley Park. The park is undergoing redevelopment to address changing needs and growing numbers of visitors to the park.

 

“We hope to enhance visitors’ experience and boost the park’s environmental health through redevelopment,” said Keath Parker, parks manager in charge of planning and development. “We are working with a number of stakeholders to identify refurbishment needs as well as management practices that best balance the needs of all park users.”

 

An open house will be held Saturday, June 15, 2013 from 1 to 4:p.m. at the Parks Administration Building in Stanley Park. The public will be invited to comment on design concepts and proposed management strategies that were drafted with input from a series of stakeholder meetings and a public engagement session held in March.

 

“We are encouraging citizens to have a voice in the redevelopment,” said Parker. “Parks is committed to reflecting the voices of citizens in our decisions on this project.”  

 

Parks representatives as well as those from the Stantec consulting team will be available to answer questions and solicit feedback. The interactive open house format will include a number of displays with an opportunity to comment on the draft vision, goals and guiding principles for the management strategies, as well as review two design concepts for the park. An online survey is also available on the Stanley Park site and will remain open for feedback until June 28.
