Changes to residential waste and recycling collection and landfills due to flooding.

Waste & Recycling Services will be redeploying staff and equipment to focus on helping flood victims. This will affect residential collection of garbage and recyclables throughout Calgary until further notice.

Blue cart collection is suspended until further notice in all communities in Calgary. Please store recyclable materials until collection resumes or take recyclables to the community recycling depots if necessary.

Other residential collection service will continue on your usual collection day in communities not impacted by flooding. Only materials in carts will be collected. No materials outside the carts will be collected.

Garbage Collection - Flood Areas Only

Garbage trucks and dumpsters will be available at re-entry information centres in each of the flood affected communities until further notice for use of residents to bring garbage and flood damaged materials.

Residents of flooded communities can leave large items on their front lawns for collection. Please mark items with a sign if you do not want them collected.

Electronics, appliances and household hazardous waste such as propane tanks, chemicals and paints will not be accepted in the garbage but will be collected later from flood affected areas. More details on those arrangements will follow. These materials can also be brought at no charge to the Throw ‘N’ Go areas of City landfills for proper disposal.

Household chemicals and propane and helium tanks are also accepted at the following fire halls and City landfills.

City Landfill Hours Extended

The three City of Calgary landfills at Shepard, East Calgary and Spyhill will be open to the public seven days a week for extended hours effective immediately.

City landfills will be open 7:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily until further notice.

There will be no charge to residents bringing flood damaged materials to City landfills.

For residents not affected by the flood, please stay away from the landfills to facilitate service for those bringing flood materials for disposal.
