Calgary road closures and lane restrictions for June 7, 2013

New road closures and lane restrictions

Southwest
7 Street S.W. between 1 Avenue S.W. and 4 Avenue S.W.  will be closed, and the intersection of 7 Street S.W. and 3 Avenue S.W. will be closed. There will be one lane open on 4 Avenue S.W. This road closure will be from 3 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday, June 8, for paving.
 
7 Street S.W. between 4 Avenue S.W. and 6 Avenue S.W. will be closed, including the intersections of 7 Street and 5 Avenue S.W. and 7 Street and 6 Avenue S.W., will be closed from 3 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sunday, June 9 for paving.
 
Eastbound Bow Trail/ 9 Avenue S.W. between Crowchild Trail and 3 Street S.E. will have various multiple lanes closed and the speed limit reduced to 50 km/h from 5 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily on Saturday, June 8 and Sunday, June 9 for paving. Calgary Police Service will be on site to assist with traffic control as paving crews progress through intersections. Alternate routes such as 10 Avenue S.W. are recommended as major delays are expected.
 
The ramps from northbound and southbound 14 Street S.W. to eastbound 9 Avenue S.W. will be closed from 7 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday, June 8 for paving. Southbound traffic on 14 Street S.W. will be directed to use 12 Avenue S.W. and northbound traffic on 14 Street S.W. will be directed to use 10 Avenue S.W. as an alternate route to the 9 Avenue S.W. exit. Calgary Police Service will be on site to assist with traffic control as required.
 
Westbound 6 Avenue S.W. between 2 Street S.W. and 1 Street S.W. will be reduced to two lanes from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily on Saturday, June 8 and Sunday, June 9, for construction.
 
17 Avenue S.W. east of 14 Street S.W. will have one lane closed in each direction from 7 a.m. on Saturday, June 8 until 5 a.m. on Monday, June 10, for underground utility installation.
 
11 Avenue S.W. between 1 Street S.W. and 2 Street S.W. will be closed from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday, June 9, for construction.
 
12 Avenue S.W. west of 14 Street S.W. will be reduced to one lane from 7 a.m. on Saturday, June 8 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, June 9, for utilities.
 
29 Street S.W. between 28 Avenue S.W. and 30 Avenue S.W. will be closed from 7 p.m. on Friday, June 7 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, June 9, for the installation of underground utilities.
 
Southeast
Northbound Blackfoot Trail at the south end of the bridge over Glenmore Trail will have the right lane closed and the speed limit reduced to 60 km/h from 9 a.m. Friday, June 7 to 7 p.m. Sunday, June, 9 to allow for preliminary road work related to the Blackfoot Trail Bridge re-hab project.
 
Westbound 90 Avenue S.E. west of 52 Street S.E. will have the right lane closed from 9 a.m. Saturday, June 8 to 9 p.m. Sunday, June 9, for gas line service upgrades.
 
Southbound 1 Street S.E. between 5 Avenue S.E. and 6 Avenue S.E. will be reduced to a single lane from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily on Saturday, June 8 and Sunday, June 9, for construction.
 
6 Avenue S.E. at 1 Street S.E. will be reduced to two lanes from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily between Saturday, June 8 to Sunday, June 9, for construction.
 
Centre Street S. between 7 Avenue S.E. and 6 Avenue S.E.  will be reduced to one lane in each direction from 7 a.m. on Friday, June 7 until 6 p.m. on Sunday, June 16, for construction.
 
Northbound Macleod Trail between 18 Avenue S.E. and 9 Avenue S.E. will have various lane closures from 7 p.m. on Friday, June 7 until 7 a.m. on Sunday, June 9, for paving.
 
Southbound 1 Street S.E. between 9 Avenue S.E. and 18 Avenue S.E. will have various lane closures from 5 p.m. on Sunday, June 9 until 5 a.m. on Monday, June 10, for paving.
 
4 Street S.E. between 8 Avenue S.E. and 7 Avenue S.E. will be reduced to one lane in each direction from 8 a.m. on Wednesday, June 5 until 8 p.m. on Sunday, June 9, for utility work.
 
Eastbound and westbound Glenmore Trail east of Blackfoot Trail S.E. will have various lane closures from 9 p.m. on Sunday, June 9 to 5 a.m. on Monday, June 10, for bridge deck maintenance.
 
Westbound 90 Avenue S.E. east of 52 Street S.E. will have the right lane closed from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily between Monday, June 10 until Friday, June 14, for utilities.
 
Westbound 90 Avenue S.E. west of 52 Street S.E. will have the right lane closed from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily between Monday, June 10 until Friday, June 14, for utilities.
 
Northbound 52 Street S.E. south of 90 Avenue S.E. will have the right lane closed from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily between Monday, June 10 until Friday, June 14, for utilities. The speed limit will be reduced to 50 kilometers per hour.
 
Spiller road S.E. between 25 Avenue S.E. and 34 Avenue S.E. will be closed from 7 a.m. on Saturday, June 8 until 7 p.m. on Sunday, June 9, for utilities.
 
4 Street S.E. between 53 Avenue S.E. and 58 Avenue S.E. will be closed from 7 a.m. on Saturday, June 8 until 6 p.m. on Sunday, June 9, for utilities.
 
Northwest
Northbound Shaganappi Trail at 16 Avenue N.W. will be closed from 5 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Saturday, June 8, for bridge construction.

Special Events
The Carifest Parade
The Carifest Parade will run from Eau Claire, south on 3 Street S.W. to 8 Avenue S.W., and west along 8 Avenue S.W.  to Shaw Millenium Park.  The parade will run from 11:55 a.m.to 1:30p.m.  No lane or road closures will occur with this event.
 
Calgary Academy Team Triathlon – Friday, June 7
 There will be right lane closures between 12 noon and 2 p.m. on the following routes:
  • Southbound 69 Street S.W. between 17 Avenue S.W. and 26 Avenue S.W.
  • Westbound 26 Avenue S.W. between 69 Street and 77 Street S.W.
  • Northbound 77 Street S.W. between 26 Avenue and 17 Avenue S.W.
  • Westbound 17 Avenue S.W. between 77 Street and Aspen Stone Boulevard S.W.
Watch for cyclists on the following routes:
  • Aspen Hills Drive from Aspen Hills Boulevard to 93 Street S.W.
  • 93 Street S.W. to just south of Calgary Academy School.
“National” Tournament at Spruce Meadows – Wednesday, June 5 to Sunday, June 9
The speed limit will be reduced in the area from 90 km/h to 50 km/h on Friday, June 7 to Sunday, June 9.

Poppy Plaza Opening & Community Celebration – Saturday, June 8
Eastbound Memorial Drive N.W. east of 14 Street N.W. to 10 Street N.W. will have the right lane closed from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
 
Bowness Community Association - Run Bowness – Sunday, June 9
79 Street N.W. between 43 Avenue N.W. and 48 Avenue N.W. will be closed from 7 a.m. to 12 noon.
Please drive with caution and watch for runners in this area.
 
 
Ongoing road closures and lane restrictions
Southwest
Hull Avenue S.W. between Horton Road S.W. and Macleod Trail will be closed from 7 p.m. on Monday, June 3 until 3 p.m. on Friday, July 12, for major road reconstruction.

The northbound right lane on Centre Street between 6 Avenue S.W. and 5 Avenue S.W. is closed until further notice. This is due to emergency utility work.
 
Hull Avenue S.W. between Horton Road S.W. and Macleod Trail will be closed from 7 p.m. on Monday, June 3 until 3 p.m. on Friday, July 12, for major road reconstruction.

Southeast
Northbound and southbound 52 Street S.E. at McKenzie Towne Avenue will have the right lane closed and speed limit reduced to 50 km/h from 9 a.m.to 3:30 p.m. daily, starting Wednesday, June 5 for approximately two weeks, to allow for installation of a new traffic signal.

4 Street S.E. between 8 Avenue S.E. and 7 Avenue S.E. will be reduced to one lane in each direction from 8 a.m. on Wednesday, June 5 until 8 p.m. on Sunday, June 9, for utility work.

Motorists are advised of the following traffic impacts set to occur on Deerfoot Trail, Stoney Trail and nearby intersections:
  • June 4 to June 7 overnightsignage removal along Deerfoot Trail at Cranston Avenue SE, and Seton Boulevard SE, and on Stoney Trail SE west of Deerfoot Trail.
Northwest
Sarcee Trail between John Laurie Boulevard and Crowchild Trail will be reduced to one lane in each direction starting at 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. daily between Tuesday, June 4 until Saturday, June 29, for sound wall replacement.

Eastbound 16 Avenue N.W. between Bowness Road and Shaganappi Trail will have various lane closures throughout the month of June until the end of June, for bridge rehabilitation.

Westbound 16 Avenue N.W. west of Sarcee Trail will have the right lane closed from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily throughout the month of June until the end of June, for noise wall replacement.
 
Bowness Road at 16 Avenue N.W. will have various lane closures throughout the month of June until the end of June, for bridge repair.
Eastbound 16 Avenue N.W. at Crowchild Trail will have the right lane closed from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily throughout the month of June until the end of June, for sound wall replacement.
 
 
Long term projects – road closures and lane restrictions
Northwest
Eastbound 2 Avenue N.W. between 10 Street N.W. and 9A Street N.W. will be closed from 9 a.m. on Wednesday, May 8 until 6 p.m. on Sunday, June 30, for construction.
 
Bowness Road N.W. at 16 Avenue N.W. will have various daily lane restrictions, from 6 p.m. on Monday, May 21 until Sunday, June 30, for bridge rehabilitation project.
 
Northeast
36 Street N.E. will be closed between 80 Avenue N.E. and Country Hills Boulevard, beginning Monday, April 8, between Airport Trail and Country Hills Boulevard for the roadway to be reconstructed from two lanes to four lanes. The closure, which will last approximately four months, will allow Airport Trail connections to be made to 36 Street N.E. eastbound from the Airport Trail tunnel. Motorists are advised to use Métis Trail N.E. as an alternative route. For more information, visit 36 Street N.E. road reconstruction and widening.
 
Lane closures on Centre Street between Laycock Drive and Thorncrest Road will restrict traffic to a single lane in each direction starting at 4 a.m. Monday, April 22, for the Centre Street Reconstruction and Transit Priority project. Southwest
Westbound 13 Avenue S.W. between 1 Street S.W. to 4 Street S.W. will be closed starting at 7 a.m. on Monday, April 29, for approximately two months for the 13 Avenue Heritage Greenway Project.
 
Southeast
68 Street S.E. between 106 Avenue S.E. and 108 Avenue S.E. will have all traffic shifted to an adjacent eastside road, to allow for utility installations and surface upgrades, starting at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 6. The speed limit of the detour road will be reduced to 30 km/h. This stage of construction is expected to last until mid-June. Updates will be provided as the project progresses.
 
52 Street S.E. at 126 Avenue S.E., one lane will be reduced to one lane in each direction and there will be no left turns at the intersection from 7 a.m. on Friday, May 3 until the end of June, for utility installation.
