New Year’s Eve fireworks!
Welcome in 2022 with fireworks! Everyone is invited to celebrate by watching the livestream of a midnight fireworks show over the Calgary Tower at Calgary.ca/NYE, with a synchronized CJSW 90.9 FM music soundtrack.
The fireworks show will be atop the iconic Calgary Tower. If you don’t have a view of the Calgary Tower, please watch and listen to the livestream featuring a blessing from a local Indigenous Elder, the countdown to midnight with Calgary Mayor Jyoti Gondek and the main event – a spectacular fireworks show with music soundtrack broadcast on CJSW 90.9FM.
We recommend tuning in at 11:55 p.m. on December 31, 2021.

Parking
Christmas Day (Saturday, Dec 25), Boxing Day (Sunday, Dec 26) and New Year’s Day (Saturday, Jan 1): No payment is required for on-street parking. Holiday rates will be in effect at select CPA parkades and surface lots. Regular rates will be in effect at the Calgary Zoo, TELUS Spark and Heritage Park.
The Impound Lot and CPA Contact Centre will be closed on Dec 25 and Jan 1. Regular rates will be in effect Dec 24 and Dec 31.
Road closures
As a result of the fireworks show, from 11:45 p.m. Dec. 31, 2021 to 12:15 a.m. Jan. 1, 2022:
- Centre Street S.E., from 6 Avenue S.E. to 9 Avenue S.E., will be closed
- 9 Avenue S.W., from 1 Street S.W. to 1 Avenue S.E., will be closed
- 9 Avenue S.W. south sidewalk, in front of the Calgary Tower, will be closed
Around the house
Blue, Black and Green Cart collection
There are no changes to cart collection services this year for single-family homes.
Regular service will be in effect for Friday, Dec. 24 (Christmas Eve) and Friday, Dec. 31 (New Year’s Eve).

The following facilities will be closed over the holiday season:
- Aquatics and Fitness Centres: All City-operated aquatic and fitness centres are closed on Dec. 25, Dec. 26 and Jan. 1.
- Shouldice Aquatic Centre is closed Dec. 10 - Jan. 3.
- Foothills Aquatic Centre is closed Dec. 17, 2021 - Jan 16.
- Inglewood Aquatic Centre is closed Dec. 24 – Jan. 2.

- Leisure Centres: Both Southland and Village Square Leisure Centres are closed Dec. 25 and 26. Southland is open on Jan. 1 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Village Square is closed. Hours of operation between Dec. 24 and Jan. 2 vary. Info is available at ca/pools
