Calgary road closures - May 9, 2014

Northeast

Southbound 52 Street N.E. is reduced to one lane at 26 Avenue N.E. from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily until Friday, May 16 for utility work.

Eastbound Memorial Drive is reduced to one lane at 4 Street N.E. from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily until Saturday, May 31 due to construction.

Northwest

Parking will be restricted on westbound Varsity Estates Drive at 53 Street N.W. from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily from Monday, May 12 to Friday, May 16 due to utility work.

Sherwood Boulevard N.W. will be closed at Sherwood Parade N.W. from 6 a.m. on Friday, May 9 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, May 11 due to utility work.

5 Avenue N.W. will be closed at 19 Street N.W from 7 p.m. on Friday, May 9 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, May 11 due to utility work.

Eastbound Crowchild Trail is reduced to one lane at Stoney Trail from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily until Friday, May 9 due to construction.

There will be various lane closures on eastbound Memorial Drive between Crowchild Trail and 16 Street N.W. until Thursday, May 15 due to riverbank restoration. On weekdays lane restrictions will be in effect daily from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and on weekends daily from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Southeast

Ogden Road is reduced to one lane in each direction at 34 Avenue S.E. until Monday, May 12 due to utility work. Delays are expected. Motorists are advised to use alternate routes like Blackfoot Trail.

The right lane on southbound 52 Street S.E. between 68 Avenue S.E. and 72 Avenue S.E. will be closed until Sunday, May 11 due to utility work. At the same time speed will be reduced to 50 km/h. In addition 68 Avenue S.E. will be closed west of 52 Street S.E. Motorists are advised to use alternate routes like Barlow Trail.

Southwest

NEW: 4 Street S.W. will be closed between 4 Avenue and 5 Avenue S.W. on Friday, May 9 at 6 p.m. until on Monday, May 12 at 5 a.m. for utility work.

NEW:  There are various lane closures on 14 Street S.W. between 6 Avenue and 17 Avenue S.W. from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily on weekdays, and 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. on weekends. Work will be ongoing until mid-summer.

NEW: 14 Street S.W. will be closed at 29 Avenue S.W. from 8 a.m. on Monday, May 12 until Wednesday, May 21 for utility work.

There will be various lane closures on 14 Street S.W. between Heritage Drive and Anderson Road from Monday, May 12 until August for operational improvements. More information is available on the website.

12 Avenue S.W. will be reduced to two lanes between 1 Street S.W. and 2 Street S.W. from 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 10 due to utility work.

5 Avenue S.W. will be reduced to two lanes between 1 Street S.W. and 2 Street S.W. from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily from Saturday, May 10 to Sunday, May 11 due to utility work.

Parking will be restricted on 2 Avenue S.W. between 3 Street S.W. and 4 Street S.W. from 4:30 p.m. on Friday, May 9 to 9 a.m. on Saturday, May 10 due to construction.

Two left lanes on 4 Avenue S.W. will be closed between 3 Street S.W. and 5 Street S.W. during peak hours. During off-peak hours (9 a.m. to 3 p.m.) three left lanes will be closed. The first phase of this project is expected to last until the end of May.

2 Avenue S.W. is closed between 2 Street and 3 Street S.W. until July 3 at 6 p.m.

The left lane and sidewalk are closed on 11 Avenue S.W. between 11 Street S.W. and 12 Street S.W. until Tuesday, September 30 due to building construction.

Special Events

Scouts Canada Soap Box Derby

Lake Ontario Drive S.E. will be closed between Lake Crimson Drive S.E. and Lake Sylvan Drive S.E. from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday May, 10

Dashmesh Culture Centre – Annual Sikh Parade

From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday May 10 the route of the Dashmesh Culture Centre – Annual Sikh Parade will have the following lane reductions and road closures:

  • Martindale Boulevard N.E. will be closed between Martindale Gate N.E. and Falconridge Boulevard N.E.
  • Falconridge Boulevard N.E. will be reduced to two lanes on the east side of the road between Taradale Drive N.E./Martindale Boulevard N.E. to 64 Avenue N.E.
  • 64 Avenue N.E. will be reduced to two lanes on the south side of the road between Falconridge Boulevard N.E. and Martindale Gate N.E.
  • Martindale Gate N.E. will be reduced to two lanes on the west side of the road between 64 Avenue N.E. and Martindale Boulevard N.E.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area and that due to the parade there will be a large police presence in the area.

Sport Chek 37th Annual Mother’s Day 5 km and 10 km Road Race

From 6 a.m. until 11 a.m. on Sunday, May 11, the route for the Sport Chek 37th Annual Mother’s Day Run and Walk will be closed to motorists. The lane closures, which will accommodate runners and pedestrians along the route, are:

  • Macleod Trail will be reduced to two lanes for northbound traffic between Glenmore Trail and Mission Road.
  • Macleod Trail will be reduced to one lane for southbound traffic between Glenmore Trail and Mission Road.
  • Elbow Drive will be reduced to two lanes on the south side between 4 Street S.W. and Lansdowne Avenue S.W.
  • 4 Street S.W. will be closed between 42 Avenue S.W. and 58 Avenue S.W.
  • 58 Avenue S.W. will be closed between 5 Street S.W. and Macleod Trail.
  • Mission Road S.W. will be reduced to one lane, northbound only, between 4 Street S.W. and Macleod Trail.

Motorists are advised that there will be a heavy police presence on site.
