Calgary Road Closures - May 28, 2015

Northwest

NEW: Starting at 9 a.m. on Friday, May 29, until  Monday, June 1 at 5 a.m, 13 Ave from Centre Street N.E. to Centre A Street N.E.  is closed .

Update: 4 Avenue N.E. is closed between Edmonton Trail N.E. and 4A Street N.E. beginning at 7 a.m. on Monday, May 25. This closure continues until 2 p.m. on Monday, June 1 and accommodates construction.

The right lane of 64 Avenue N.E. between 9 Street N.E. and 11 Street N.E. is closed beginning at 9 a.m. on Monday, May 11. This closure continues until 3 p.m. on Friday, May 29 and accommodates construction.

2 Street N.E. between 5 Avenue N.E. and 9 Avenue N.E. will have various lane closures beginning at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, April 29. These closures will continue until Monday, June 15 and accommodate utility upgrade work.

Northwest

NEW: starting at 9 a.m. on Friday, May 29, Hunterview Drive N.W. is closed at Hunterbrook Road N.W. for utility work until Sunday, May 31 at 8 p.m.

NEW: Starting at 9 a.m. on Friday, May 29, Southbound Shaganappi Trail will be reduced to one lane for pedestrian bridge repairs until 3 p.m. on Friday.

NEW: Starting at 10 p.m. on Friday, May 29, Crowchild North and South will be reduced to one lane at 40 Avenue N.W. for LRT station repairs until 4 a.m. Monday, June 1.

The right lane of westbound Memorial Drive N.W. west of 4 Street N.W. will be closed between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. beginning on Monday, May 25. This closure continues daily during these hours until Friday, May 29 and accommodates flood restoration work.

Southbound 10 Street N.W. at 2 Avenue N.W. is reduced to a single left lane. This closure remains in place until the end of May and accommodates new development construction.

Eastbound 16 Avenue N.W. will be reduced to one lane east of Sarcee Trail N.W. from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily on weekdays until the end of May due to utility work.

Country Hills Boulevard N.W. east of Rocky Ridge Road N.W. will be reduced to a single lane in each direction beginning at 9 a.m. on Monday, May 4. This construction project continues until the end of June.

Southeast

The two right lanes of 9 Avenue S.W. will be closed between 3 Street S.W. and 4 Street S.W. beginning at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, May 26. This closure will continue nightly between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m. the following morning until further notice. This closure accommodates construction.

11 Street S.E. under Glenmore Trail S.E. will have various single lane closures between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. beginning Monday, May 25. This closure continues until Friday, May 29 and accommodates bridge work.

The exit ramp allowing U-turns from southbound 1 Street S.E. to northbound Macleod Trail, north of 25 Avenue S.E. will be closed beginning at 5 a.m. on Tuesday, May 19. In addition, the regional pathway link to the Macleod Trail bridge deck (Victoria Bridge) will also be closed. Pathway users will be directed to use the 1 Street S.E. link one block to the west. These closures will remain in place for the duration of the 2015 construction season. The existing westbound left lane closure and 60 km/h speed reduction will remain in place 24/7 until mid-May across the Graves Bridge over the Bow River on Glenmore Trail west of 18 Street S.E. Multiple westbound lane closures will be allowed during evenings and weekends. The eastbound right lane will be closed and the speed reduced to 60 km/h on the Graves Bridge, Beginning Monday, May 11 and remains in place 24/7 until mid-June. This is the continuation of the Water Services new water main installation, using bridge structure as above ground support to cross Bow River.

94 Avenue S.E. between 52 Street S.E. and 60 Street S.E. will be closed beginning at 7 a.m. on Monday, April 20. The closure will remain in place until 8.pm. on Friday, July 31 and accommodates new road construction.

4 Street S.E. is reduced to one lane in each direction between 9 Avenue S.E. and 8 Avenue S.E. until September 30. This closure is needed to facilitate the construction of the +60 pedestrian bridge at the National Music Centre.

Southwest

The north lane of 12 Avenue S.W. between 5 Street S.W. and 11 Street S.W. is permanently closed beginning on May 4 due to cycle track construction.

12 Avenue S.W. between 32 Street S.W. and 28 Street S.W. will be closed beginning at 6 a.m. on Friday, May 1. This closure will continue until 7 p.m. on Sunday, May 31 and accommodates sanitary line upgrades.

5 Street S.W. between 2 Avenue S.W. and 3 Avenue S.W. will be closed beginning at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, May 4. This closure will continue until 7 p.m. on Monday, June 8 and accommodates +15 construction between Eau Claire Tower and Centennial Place.

Southbound 1 Street S.W. will be reduced to one lane between 9 Avenue S.W. and 10 Avenue S.W. starting Sunday, January 25 to accommodate the 1 Street S.W. underpass enhancement project. At the same time the sidewalk on southbound 1 Street S.W. will be closed. Pedestrians should use the sidewalk on the east side of 1 Street S.W. These closures will be in place until the work on the west side of the underpass is complete.

Glenmore Trail Bridges Rehabilitation Project

The bridges of eastbound and westbound Glenmore Trail S.E. east of Macleod Trail S.E. Centre Street S / Fairmount Drive S.E. and the L.R.T. tracks will have various road closures and the speed limit reduced to 50 km/h beginning at 8 p.m. on Friday, May 29. This project will continue through the 2015 construction season, for work related to the Glenmore Bridges rehabilitation project.  During construction, there will be various stages which will require traffic pattern changes on Glenmore Trail S.E. and numerous lane closures on both Glenmore Trail S.E. and Centre Street S / Fairmount Drive S.E. under Glenmore Trail S.E. Eastbound and westbound Glenmore Trail S.E. east of Macleod Trail S.E. at the Centre Street S / Fairmount Drive S.E. bridge and the L.R.T. bridge will have multiple lanes closed beginning at 9 p.m. on Friday, May 29. This closure continues until 5 a.m. on Saturday, May 30 to allow for work related to the Glenmore Trail Bridges rehabilitation projects.

Eastbound and westbound Glenmore Trail S.E. east of Macleod Trail S.E. will have multiple lanes closed between 4 a.m. and 6 p.m. on Sunday, May 31 to allow for work related to the Glenmore Trail Bridges rehabilitation projects at the Centre Street S /Fairmount Drive S.E. bridge and the L.R.T. Bridge. Alternate routes are recommended as major delays are expected.  Glenmore Trail S.E. will then open to the first stage detour with newly shifted lane marking alignments in both eastbound and westbound directions.  The speed limit on Glenmore Trail will remain at 50 km/h for the duration of construction.

Special Events

Lilac Festival – Sunday, May 31 between 5 a.m. and 9 p.m.

 

  • 4 Street S.W. between 13 Avenue S.W. and 26 Avenue S.W. will be closed
  • Expect major delays on 17 Avenue S.W. at 4 Street S.W. due to pedestrian crossings. The area will be controlled by Calgary Police Service.

 

Motorists are advised to use alternative routes or to take Calgary Transit during the Lilac Festival.

Cycle Track Closures

  • From Sunday, May 10 onwards, there will be no parking permitted on either side of 8 Avenue between 11 St. S.W. and 3 St. S.W. due to lane spotting and lane marking work.
  • From Sunday, May 10 onwards, there will be no parking permitted on either side of 5 Street between 3 Ave. S.W. and 17 Ave. S.W. due to lane marking work.

51 Annual Scotiabank Calgary Marathon – Sunday, May 31 from 6 a.m. until 1 p.m.

 

  • Olympic Way will be closed from 14 Avenue S.E. to 19 Avenue S.E. (Also, Olympic Way from 4 Street S.E. to 12 Street S.E. will be closed for one hour between 7 a.m. to 8 a.m.)
  • 4 Street S.E. will be reduced to one lane from 8 Avenue S.E. to 14 Avenue S.E.
  • 11 Avenue will be reduced to two westbound lanes from Olympic Way to 14 Street S.W.
  • 17 Avenue S.W. will be reduced to two westbound lanes from 15 Street S.W. to 14 Street S.W.
  • 14 Street S.W. will be closed between 17 Avenue S.W. and 12 Avenue S.W.
  • Northbound 14 Street will be reduced to one lane between 12 Avenue S.W. and Kensington Road.
  • 12 Street will be closed between 9 Avenue S.E. and 2 Avenue N.E.
  • 1 Avenue N.E. will be reduced to one eastbound lane between 12 Street N.E. and 4 Street N.E.
  • 4 Street N.E. will be reduced to one lane on east side from 1 Avenue N.E. to Riverfront Avenue N.E.
  • 8 Avenue S.E. will be closed between 4 Street S.E. and 6 Street S.E.
  • Memorial Drive will be reduced to one lane in each direction between Centre Street and the Langevin Bridge (4 Street N.E.)
  • Memorial Drive will be completely closed between 10 Street N.W. and Crowchild Trail N.W.
  • Riverfront Avenue will be closed from 1 Street S.W. to 6 Street S.E.
  • Southbound Elbow Drive will be reduced to one right lane from 5 Street S.W. to 32 Avenue S.W.
  • At Flanders Avenue S.W. ramps both directions on Crowchild Trail S.W. will be closed.

 

Drive with caution and watch for runners in the Mount Royal, Bankview, and Garrison Woods areas:

  • Premier Way S.W., Council Way, and 30 Avenue S.W.
  • 38 Avenue S.W., between 13 Street S.W. and 15 Street S.W.
  • 14 A Street S.W., between 39 Avenue S.W. and 50 Avenue S.W.
  • 20 Street S.W. from just south of 58 Avenue S.W. to 44 Avenue S.W.
  • Richard Road S.W. from Flanders Avenue S.W. to west of Richardson Way S.W.
  • Richardson Way S.W. from Richard Road S.W. to Sarcee Road S.W.
  • Sarcee R S.W. from Richardson Way S.W. to 32 Avenue S.W.
  • 29 Street S.W. from 32 Avenue S.W. to 26 Avenue S.W.
  • 26 Avenue S.W. from 29 Street S.W. to 14A Street S.W.
