Calgary road closures - June 4, 2014

Northeast

NEW: One lane will be closed on westbound Airport Trail between 36 Street N.E. and Barlow Trail from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Thursday, June 5 due to maintenance.

17 Avenue N.E. and 18 Avenue N.E. will be closed at Edmonton Trail from 5 a.m. on Friday, May 16 until early June due to the Edmonton Trail road reconstruction project.

Northwest

NEW: 10 Street N.W. will be reduced to one lane in each direction between Memorial Drive N.W. and 4 Avenue S.W. from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly from Wednesday, June 4 to Sunday, June 8 due to bridge paving.

NEW: Westbound Bowness Road N.W. will be reduced to one lane at 73 Street N.W. from midnight to 3 p.m. on Thursday, June 5 due to utility work.

NEW:  Southbound Centre Street will be reduced to one lane between 13 Avenue N.W. and 12 Avenue N.W. from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Thursday, June 5 due to sign installation. At this time parking will be restricted and the sidewalk will also be closed.

Southeast

NEW: There will be various lane closures on southbound Blackfoot Trail over Glenmore Trail from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday, June 5 to allow for work related to the Blackfoot Trail Bridge rehabilitation project. As a result there will be new lane markings on southbound Blackfoot Trail. Bridge construction is estimated to be completed before the end of June.

There will be various lane closures on 9 Street S.E. at 32 Avenue S.E. from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily from Monday, June 2 to Monday, June 16 dye to utility work.

There will be construction on Sunmills Drive S.E. between Sun Valley Boulevard S.E. and Suncastle Drive S.E. starting mid June due to traffic calming measures being implemented in the area. Traffic should be minimally impacted but motorists are asked to be aware and cautious around crews working.

There will be various lane closures on 9 Street S.E. at 32 Avenue S.E. from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily from Tuesday, May 27 to Tuesday, June 10 due to utility work. 

Southwest

NEW: 7 Street S.W. (including the cycle track) will be closed between due to work occurring at 608 7 Street S.W. from 7 p.m. on Thursday, June 5 to 5 a.m. on Friday, June 6. At the same time 6 Avenue S.W. will be reduced to two lanes between 6 Street S.W. and 7 Street S.W. Cyclists are advised to use 8 Street S.W. or 6 Street S.W. as alternatives.

NEW: 5 Avenue S.W. will be reduced to two lanes between 5 Street S.W. and 6 Street S.W. from 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 5 until mid-July due to water main replacement.

NEW: 5 Street S.W. will be reduced to three lanes between 5 Avenue S.W. and 6 Avenue S.W. from 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 5 until mid-July due to water main replacement.

NEW: The right lane on eastbound Glenmore Trail will be closed over the Graves Bridge until Wednesday, June 18 due to emergency pathway repair. At this time the speed will be reduced to 60 km/h.

There will be various lane closures at Glenmore Trail and 14 Street S.W. from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly from Sunday, June 1 to Thursday, June 5 due to bridge deck maintenance.

Eastbound 8 Avenue S.W. will be closed between 4 street S.W. and 5 Street S.W. from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, June 8 due to building construction. Parking will be restricted in the area at this time.

There will be various lane closures on eastbound Bow Trail between Sarcee Trail and 37 Street S.W. from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily on weekdays and 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily on weekends from Wednesday, May 21 to Wednesday, June 4 due to construction. At this time the speed limit will be reduced to 50 km/h.

 13 Avenue S.W. will be closed between 11 Street S.W. and 12 Street S.W. from 6 a.m. on Tuesday, May 20 to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, June 10 due to utility work.

There will be various lane closures on 14 Street S.W. between 6 Avenue and 38 Avenue S.W. from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily on weekdays, and 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. on weekends. Work will be ongoing until late-summer. Visit Calgary.ca for more information.

There will be various lane closures on 14 Street S.W. between Heritage Drive and Anderson Road from Monday, May 12 until August for operational improvements. More information is available on the website.

Two left lanes on 4 Avenue S.W. will be closed between 3 Street S.W. and 5 Street S.W. during peak hours. During off-peak hours (9 a.m. to 3 p.m.) three left lanes will be closed. The first phase of this project is expected to last until mid-June.

2 Avenue S.W. is closed between 2 Street and 3 Street S.W. until Thursday, July 3 at 6 p.m.

The left lane and sidewalk are closed on 11 Avenue S.W. between 11 Street S.W. and 12 Street S.W. until Tuesday, September 30 due to building construction.

Special Events

Mayor’s Environment Expo – Tuesday, June 3 – Thursday, June 5

  • The right lane will be closed on Macleod Trail between 9 Avenue S.E. and 7 Avenue S.E. from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily from Tuesday, June 3 to Thursday, June 5.

Celebration of Excellence – Friday, June 6

  • 11 Street S.W. will be closed between 9 Avenue S.W. and 6 Avenue S.W. from 6 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • 8 Avenue will be closed between 11 Street S.W. and MacLeod Trail from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • There will be rolling closures along 8 Avenue from 11:30 to 1:30 p.m. These closures will be controlled by Calgary Police Service.
  • MacLeod Trail will be closed between 9 Avenue S.E. and 6 Avenue S.E. from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Riverfront Avenue will be closed between MacLeod Trail S.E. to the Langevin Bridge from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. 

Calgary Police Service will be present in the area.

Run Bowness – Sunday, June 8

  • 79 Street N.W. will be closed between 43 Avenue N.W. and 48 Avenue N.W. from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Motorists are advised to drive with caution and watch for runners in the area, including the following roadways:

  • 48 Avenue N.W.
  • Bow Green Crescent N.W.
  • 69 Street N.W.
  • Bowness Road N.W.
  • 67 Street N.W.
  • Bow Crescent N.W.

Calgary Police Service will be present in the area.

Kronos Triathlon Club – Calgary Kids of Steel Triathlon – Sunday, June 8

  • The right lane on 24 Avenue N.W. will be closed between East Campus Gate N.W. and Collegiate Road N.W. from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
  • The right lane on eastbound 32 Avenue N.W. will be closed between Collegiate Boulevard N.W. and East Campus Drive N.W. from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Motorists are advised to drive with caution and watch for cyclists in the area. Calgary Police Service will be present in the area.
