Calgary road closures - June 26, 2014
Northeast
The right lane on northbound Edmonton Trail will be closed at McKnight Boulevard from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily from Monday, June 23 to Friday, June 27 due to construction.
The right lane on westbound McKnight Boulevard will be closed at 4 Street N.E. from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily from Monday, June 23 to Friday, June 27 due to construction.
17 Avenue N.E. and 18 Avenue N.E. will be closed at Edmonton Trail from 5 a.m. on Friday, May 16 until late August due to the Edmonton Trail road reconstruction project.
Northwest
9 Street N.W. will be closed between 8 Street N.W. and 9 Street N.W. from 7 a.m. on Tuesday, June 24 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, July 3 due to utility work.
Symons Valley Road is completely closed between 144 Avenue N.W. and Sage Meadow Circle. This closure is expected to last until December 2014. During this time, all heavy truck traffic will be detoured to Shaganappi Trail, and local traffic will be detoured via Sage Hill Drive to 144 Avenue N.W. Visit the webpage for further information.
Southeast
NEW: The two right lanes on 9 Avenue S.E. will be closed between 4 Street S.E. and 5 Street S.E. from 9 a.m. to noon on Friday, June 27 due to building construction.
NEW: There will be various lane closures on Blackfoot Trail over Glenmore Trail from 7 p.m. on Thursday, June 26 to 1 a.m. on Friday, June 27 due to work related to the Blackfoot Trail Bridge rehabilitation project. Crews will work one direction at a time starting on southbound lanes.
There will be various lane closures on Macleod Trail at 210 Avenue S.E. from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily from Friday, June 20 to Monday, June 30 due to construction related to intersection upgrades. Speed is reduced to 60 km/h in the area.
The exit ramp from southbound 52 Street S.E. to westbound Peigan Trail and the right lane on westbound Peigan Trail west of 52 Street S.E. will be closed starting at 6 a.m. on Saturday, June 14 until Saturday, June 28 due to road construction related to the Peigan Trail extension project. Motorists are advised to watch for detour signs.
There will be various lane closures on 9 Avenue S.E. between 3 Street S.E. and 6 Street S.E. starting Monday, June 9 until the end of August. There will also be various closures on 6 Street S.E. between 9 Avenue and 6 Avenue S.E. for East Village construction. This work will stop during Stampede (July 4-13).
There will be construction on Sunmills Drive S.E. between Sun Valley Boulevard S.E. and Suncastle Drive S.E. starting mid June due to traffic calming measures being implemented in the area. Traffic should be minimally impacted but motorists are asked to be aware and cautious around crews working.
Southwest
NEW: Centre Street will be closed between 4 Avenue and 6 Avenue from 8 p.m. on Friday, June 27 to 5 a.m. on Wednesday, July 2 due to utility work.
NEW: 5 Avenue will be closed between 1 Street S.W. and 1 Street S.E. from 8 p.m. on Friday, June 27 to 5 a.m. on Wednesday, July 2 due to utility work.
NEW: Bow Trail will be reduced to one eastbound lane and two westbound lanes between 37 Street S.W. and 45 Street S.W. from 7 p.m. on Friday, June 27 until Friday, July 11due to road construction and paving due to the Bow Trail Paving project. Traffic will be directed to the north side of Bow Trail as crews will be working in the south side lanes. Calgary Police Service will be on site at times to assist with traffic control. Motorists are advised to use alternate routes.
NEW: 26 Avenue S.W. will be closed between 14 Street S.W. and 15 Street S.W. from 6 p.m. on Friday, June 30 to 5 a.m. on Wednesday, July 2 due to utility work.
NEW: 5 Street S.W. will be closed between 6 Avenue S.W. and 8 Avenue S.W. from 6 p.m. on Friday, June 27 to 5 a.m. on Monday, June 30 due to water main replacement. Motorists are advised to use 7 Street S.W.
Extended: The right lane and sidewalk are closed on 4 Avenue S.W. between 7 Street S.W. and 8 Street S.W. from 4 p.m. on Tuesday, June 23 to 6 p.m. on Friday, June 27 due to emergency utility work.
- 11 Avenue S.W. will be closed at 14 Street S.W. on Saturday, June 28 and Sunday, June 29 for paving.
- 12 Avenue S.W. will be closed at 14 Street S.W. on Saturday, June 28 and Sunday, June 29 for paving.
- All northbound lanes on 14 Street S.W. from 13 Avenue S.W. to 10 Avenue S.W. will be closed.
- Turning restrictions will be in place including no right turn access on 11 Avenue S.W. and no left turn access on 12 Avenue S.W.
- There will be various lane closures on 14 Street S.W. between 6 Avenue S.W. and 38 Avenue S.W. from 9:00 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily on weekdays and 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. on weekends. Work will be ongoing until late-summer.
The left lane on 5 Avenue S.W. will be closed between 1 Street S.W. and 2 Street S.W. from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily from Wednesday, June 25 to Friday, June 27 due to plus 15 construction.
There will be various lane closures on 5 Street S.W. between 5 Avenue S.W. and 8 Avenue S.W. until Thursday, July 3 due to water main replacement.
17 Avenue S.W. will be reduced to one lane in each direction at 2 Street S.W. from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily from Monday, June 23 to Friday, June 27 due to utility work.
Westbound Bow Trail will be reduced to one lane east of Crowchild Trail from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Saturday until mid-July for noise barrier construction.
5 Avenue S.W. will be reduced to two lanes between 5 Street S.W. and 6 Street S.W. from 9:30 a.m. until mid-July due to water main replacement.
5 Street S.W. will be reduced to three lanes between 5 Avenue S.W. and 6 Avenue S.W. from 9:30 a.m. until mid-July due to water main replacement.
There will be various lane closures on 14 Street S.W. between Heritage Drive and Anderson Road until August for operational improvements. More information is available on the website.
Two left lanes on 4 Avenue S.W. will be closed between 3 Street S.W. and 5 Street S.W. during peak hours. During off-peak hours (9 a.m. to 3 p.m.) three left lanes will be closed. The first phase of this project is expected to last until mid-June.
2 Avenue S.W. is closed between 2 Street and 3 Street S.W. until Thursday, July 3 at 6 p.m.
The left lane and sidewalk are closed on 11 Avenue S.W. between 11 Street S.W. and 12 Street S.W. until Tuesday, September 30 due to building construction.
Special Events
Events happening from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Tuesday, July 1
- Parking will be restricted on Riverfront Avenue S.E. from 1 Street S.E. to Macleod Trail from 6 a.m. on Sunday, June 29 to 5 p.m. on Thursday, July 3.
- The following closures will be in effect from 6 a.m. on Tuesday, July 1 to 2 a.m. on Wednesday, July 2:
- Riverfront Avenue will be closed between 1 Street S.W. and the Langevin Bridge
- 2 Avenue S.W. will be closed between 1 Street S.W. and Riverfront Avenue.
- 3 Avenue S.E. will be closed between Centre Street and 1 Street S.E.
- 1 Street S.E. from between north of 4 Avenue S.E.
- Macleod Trail north of 4 Avenue S.E.
- Lower deck of the Centre Street Bridge
- The following closures will be in effect from 6 p.m. on Tuesday, July 1 to 2 a.m. on Wednesday, July 2:
- Memorial Drive between 10 Street N.W. and Edmonton Trail (with the exception of one community access lane between 3 Street N.W. and 4 Street N.W.
- Upper deck of Centre Street Bridge
- Various streets in Crescent Heights will be restricted to resident only including: Crescent Road at 3 Street N.E., 1 Street N.W. at 9 Avenue, 2 Street N.E. at 8 Avenue, 6 Street N.E. at Edmonton Trail.
- Parking will be restricted on the south side of 8 Avenue N.E. between Centre Street and Edmonton Trail.
Calgarians are encouraged to walk, bike or take transit to the downtown area on Canada Day. To further facilitate this:
- A daytime shuttle will run between carious Canada Dayyc event sites in the downtown core, including Eau Claire, Olympic Plaza and Fort Calgary.
- Free parking will be available in the east lot of North Hill Centre and shuttle buses will run between North Hill and McHugh Bluffs from 6 p.m. to 12:30 a.m.
