Calgary Road Closures - July 24,2015

Unplanned work

Southbound Ogden Road S.E. is closed south of 42 Avenue S.E. due to emergency water main break. A two-way setup is in place in the northbound lanes, and this closure is expected to remain in place until 8 p.m. on Friday, July 24.

Northeast

NEW: Westbound Marbank Drive N.E. is closed at 52 Street N.E. beginning at 9 a.m. on Friday, July 24. Motorists are advised to use Marlborogh Drive N.E. as an alternate route. This closure remains in place until 7 p.m. on Sunday, August 2 and accommodates gas utility repair work.

Eastbound and westbound Country Hills Boulevard N.E. has been temporarily realigned between 52 Street N.E. and 60 Street N.E. This alignment continues through 2015.

Northwest

NEW: Northbound Symons Valley Parkway N.W. is reduced to a single lane at Evanston Drive N.W. beginning at 9 a.m. on Friday, July 24. This closure continues until 12 p.m. on Sunday, July 26 and accommodates water utility work.

NEW: Eastbound Country Hills Boulevard N.W. is reduced to a single lane at 14 Street N.W. between 5:30 a.m. and 12 p.m. on Saturday, July 25. Police will be onsite at the intersection directing traffic, and this closure accommodates construction.

NEW: Eastbound 16 Avenue N.W. is reduced to a single lane at 10 Street N.W. between 7:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 25. Police will be onsite at the intersection directing traffic, and this closure accommodates construction.

NEW: Northbound Centre Street N is reduced to a single lane at 20 Avenue N.W. between 9:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Saturday, July 25. Police will be onsite at the intersection directing traffic, and this closure accommodates construction.

NEW: Southbound Blackfoot Trail S.E. is reduced to a single lane at 42 Avenue S.E. between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. on Saturday, July 25. Police will be onsite at the intersection directing traffic, and this closure accommodates construction.

NEW: Northbound Barlow Trail N.E. is reduced to a single lane at Centre Avenue N.E. between 7 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Sunday, July 26. Police will be onsite at the intersection directing traffic, and this closure accommodates construction.

NEW: Westbound Bowness Road N.W. is reduced to a single lane at Shaganappi Trail N.W. between 5 a.m. and 12 p.m. on Sunday, July 26. Police will be onsite at the intersection directing traffic, and this closure accommodates construction.

NEW: Symons Valley Road N.W. is closed between 144 Avenue N.W. and Sage Hill Drive N.W. beginning at 5 a.m. on Monday, July 27. This closure accommodates construction of a new roadway. Traffic will be detoured to Sage Hill Drive N.W. The closure will remain in place until 6 p.m. on Sunday, September 6.

Centre Street N is reduced to a single lane in each direction at 13 Avenue N.W. between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. daily beginning on Wednesday, July 22. This closure continues daily during these hours until Friday, July 31 and accommodates new signal installation.

Eastbound Beddington Trail N.W. is reduced to a single lane at Hidden Valley Link N.W. between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. daily beginning on Monday, July 20. The closure will continue daily during these hours until Friday, August 14. This closure accommodates sound barrier installation.

Sherwood Boulevard N.W. is closed at Sherwood Crescent N.W. beginning at 9 a.m. on Monday, July 13 until 6 p.m. on Sunday, July 26 due to utility construction.

Westbound 112 Avenue N.W. is reduced to a single lane between 69 Street N.W. and 85 Street N.W. daily between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. beginning on Monday, July 13 until Friday, August 14 at 3 p.m. due to accommodates construction.

83 Street N.W. will be closed between 33 Avenue N.W. and Bowfort Road N.W. starting at 11 p.m. Sunday, June 28 until Spring 2016. There will be no access to Bowness Road N.W. from 16 Avenue N.W. during this closure, motorists are advised to use an alternate route.

Trans Canada Highway / Bowfort Road N.W. Interchange Project

  • The left lane of westbound 16 Avenue N.W. is closed at Bowfort Road N.W. daily between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. This closure continues until the end of July and is related to the Trans Canada Highway / Bowfort Road Interchange Project.
  • The left lane of eastbound 16 Avenue N.W. is closed at Bowfort Road N.W. daily between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. This closure continues until the end of July and is related to the Trans Canada Highway / Bowfort Road Interchange Project.

The right lane of southbound 10 Street N.W. at 2 Avenue N.W. will be closed until the end of July. This closure accommodates construction.

Eastbound 16 Avenue N.W. will be reduced to one lane east of Sarcee Trail N.W. from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily on weekdays until the end of July due to utility work.

Southeast

NEW: The right lane of the Langevin Bridge at Memorial Drive S.E. is closed between 9 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 23 and Friday, July 24. This closure accommodates bridge light repairs.

NEW: Barlow Trail S.E. between 50 Avenue S.E. and 61 Avenue S.E. will be closed from 8 p.m. Friday, July 24 until 11:00 p.m. Sunday, July 26 for paving and concrete work. Local traffic will be detoured to 52 Street S.E. via 50 Avenue S.E. and 61 Avenue S.E. to bypass the construction. Alternate routes are recommended as delays are expected.

NEW: Westbound 8 Avenue S.E. is closed at Forlee Drive S.E. beginning at 6 p.m. on Friday, July 24. A two-way setup will be installed in the eastbound lanes. This closure remains until 10 p.m. on Sunday, July 26 and accommodates the installation of new utilities.

NEW: 9 Avenue S.E. is closed between 13 Street S.E. and 14 Street S.E. beginning at 7 p.m. on Friday, July 24. Traffic will be detoured to 8 Avenue S.E. This closure continues until 5 a.m. on Monday, July 27, as this closure accommodates construction in the area.

Northbound and southbound Barlow Trail S.E., between 50 Avenue S.E. and 61 Avenue S.E., will have the speed limit reduced to 60 km/h until mid-July to allow for preparation of paving. There will be various stages of construction which will have lane closures during weekdays and full road closures on weekends.  Updates will be provided as work progresses.

Victoria Bridge rehabilitation project

  • Work related to Victoria Bridge re-hab project continues. Alternate routes are recommended as major delays are expected. Macleod Trail S.E. has opened to the first stage Victoria Bridge detour with newly shifted lane marking alignments in the northbound lanes. For information on the Victoria Bridge re-hab project please go to Calgary.ca and search “Victoria Bridge”.
  • The exit ramp allowing U-turns from southbound 1 Street S.E. to northbound Macleod Trail, north of 25 Avenue S.E. will be closed beginning at 5 a.m. on Tuesday, May 19 until late September.
  • In addition, the regional pathway link to the Macleod Trail bridge deck (Victoria Bridge) will also be closed. Pathway users will be directed to use the 1 Street S.E. link one block to the west.

Glenmore Trail Bridges Rehabilitation Project

  • NEW: Centre Street / Fairmount Drive under Glenmore Trail will have the southbound right lane closed from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, July 25 to allow for work under bridge.
  • NEW: Eastbound and westbound Glenmore Trail west of Deerfoot Trail at the 11 Street S.E bridge will have various single and multiple lanes closed from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly Monday, July 27 until Saturday, August 1 to allow for work related to the Glenmore Trail Bridges projects. The speed limit on Glenmore Trail will remain at 50 km/h for the duration of construction
  • NEW: Westbound and eastbound Glenmore Trail east of Macleod Trail at the Centre Street/Fairmount Drive bridge and the L.R.T. bridge will continue to have various multiple lanes closed from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly Monday, July 27 until Saturday, August 1 to allow for work related to the Glenmore Trail Bridges projects. The speed limit on Glenmore Trail will remain at 50 km/h for the duration of construction.
  • NEW: Westbound and eastbound Glenmore Trail east of Macleod Trail at the Centre Street/Fairmount Drive bridge and the L.R.T. bridge will have various multiple lanes closed from 5 p.m. Saturday, July 25 to 5 p.m. Sunday, July 26 for work related to the Glenmore Trail Bridges projects. Alternate routes are recommended during this time frame as major delays are expected. The speed limit on Glenmore Trail will remain at 50 km/h for the duration of construction.
  • 11 Street S.E. under Glenmore Trail will continue with various single lane closures from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily Monday, July 20 until Saturday, July 25 to allow for work under bridge.
  • Westbound and eastbound Glenmore Trail east of Macleod Trail at the Centre Street/Fairmount Drive bridge and the L.R.T. bridge will continue to have various multiple lanes closed from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly Monday, July 20 until Saturday, July 25 to allow for work related to the Glenmore Trail Bridges projects. The speed limit on Glenmore Trail will remain at 50 km/h for the duration of construction.
  • Eastbound and westbound Glenmore Trail west of Deerfoot Trail at the 11 Street S.E. bridge will have various single and multiple lanes closed from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly Monday, July 20 until Saturday, July 25 to allow for work related to the Glenmore Trail Bridges projects. The speed limit on Glenmore Trail will remain at 50 km/h for the duration of construction.
  • The speed limit on Glenmore Trail will be reduced to 50 km/h between Macleod Trail and Deerfoot Trail for the duration of construction.
  • Starting at 8 p.m. Monday, July 6, the pedestrian underpass and sidewalk connection under Glenmore Trail east of Macleod Trail S.E. will be closed for work related to the Glenmore Trail Bridges projects. Pedestrians will be directed to use Macleod Trail to cross Glenmore Trail. The pedestrian underpass is anticipated to be closed for approximately 6-8 weeks.
  • Three bridges on Glenmore Trail east of Macleod Trail and west of Deerfoot Trail, including Glenmore Trail over 11 Street S.E., Glenmore Trail over Fairmount Drive and Glenmore Trail over the CP/LRT tracks, will have various lane closures beginning at 8 p.m. on Friday, May 29. This project will continue through the 2015 construction season, for work related to the Glenmore Bridges rehabilitation project.  During construction, there will be various stages which will require traffic pattern changes on Glenmore Trail and numerous lane closures on both Glenmore Trail and Centre Street S / Fairmount Drive S.E. under Glenmore Trail S.E. The two right lanes of 9 Avenue S.W. between 3 Street S.W. and 4 Street S.W. will be closed nightly between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m. until further notice. This closure accommodates construction.

94 Avenue S.E. between 52 Street S.E. and 60 Street S.E. will be closed until Friday, July 31 for new road construction.

4 Street S.E. is reduced to one lane in each direction between 9 Avenue S.E. and 8 Avenue S.E. until September 30. This closure is for construction of the +60 pedestrian bridge at the National Music Centre.

Southwest

NEW: There will be various lane closures in both directions on Crowchild Trail S.W. at 54 Avenue S.W. these closures will be in place from 7 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 25 and Sunday, July 26.

NEW: The left lane of 9 Avenue S.W. is closed between 6 Street S.W. and 7 Street S.W. beginning at 9 a.m. on Thursday, July 23. A second left lane in this area will also be closed between the hours of 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. daily. This closure continues until 3 p.m. on Wednesday, July 29 and accommodates Enmax utility work.

NEW: 1 Street S.W. is closed between 6 Avenue S.W. and 7 Avenue S.W. beginning at 7 p.m. on Friday, July 24. This closure continues until 5 a.m. on Monday, July 27 and accommodates utility work.

NEW: Eastbound Southland Drive exit off McLeod Trail North will be closed from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. daily starting Friday, July 24 until Friday, July 31.

NEW: 2 Avenue S.W. is closed between 2 Street S.W. and 3 Street S.W. beginning at 6 a.m. on Saturday, July 25. This closure remains in place until 6 p.m. on Monday, July 27 and accommodates construction.

NEW: The left lane of 5 Street S.W. is closed to motor vehicles between 4 Avenue S.W. and 8 Avenue S.W. between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Saturday, July 25. During this time, the cycle track will be detoured into the left lane of 5 Street S.W. as Enmax utility work will be done in the cycle track itself.

NEW: 50 Avenue S.W. between 16 Street S.W. and 17 Street S.W. is closed beginning at 9 a.m. on Friday, July 24. This closure continues until 10 p.m. on Sunday, July 26 and accommodates underground utility installation.

NEW: 6 Avenue S.W. is closed between 8 Street S.W. and 9 Street S.W. beginning at 7 p.m. on Friday, July 24. Traffic will be detoured, as this closure continues through the weekend until 5 a.m. on Monday, July 27. The closure accommodates deep utility work.

NEW: The right lane of 5 Avenue S.W. is closed at 3 Street S.W. between 9 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. daily beginning on Monday, July 27. This closure continues daily during these hours until Friday, July 31 and accommodates utility work.

NEW: There will be continuous paving between Richmond Road S.W. and Bow Trail S.W. expect delays and plan alternative routes. This work will start Friday, July 24 and continue through the weekend.

Southbound 4 Street S.E. between 7 Avenue S.E. and 8 Avenue S.E. is closed beginning at 8 a.m. on Monday, July 20. A two-way setup will be installed in the northbound lanes to maintain both directions of traffic. The closure remains in place until 6 p.m. on Friday, July 31 and accommodates construction.

The right lane of westbound 9 Avenue S.E. at 4 Street S.E. and adjacent sidewalk are closed beginning at 7 a.m. on Monday, July 13. This closure continues until 6 a.m. on Saturday, August 1 and accommodates construction.

Westbound 9 Avenue S.E. at 4 Street S.E. is closed between 6 a.m. and 9 a.m. on weekdays beginning on Monday, July 13. A two-way traffic setup will be in place in the eastbound lanes during this closure to maintain both directions of traffic. This closure continues until 9 a.m. on Saturday, August 1 and accommodates construction.

The right lane of northbound 8 Street S.W. and adjacent sidewalk are closed between 8 Avenue S.W. and 10 Avenue S.W. beginning at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, July 15. This closure accommodates the 8 Street Underpass project, and is expected to continue until late September. Pedestrians are advised to use the west sidewalk.

The cycle track on 12 Avenue S.E. will be detoured between 3 Street S.E. and Olympic Way S.E. until further notice to accommodate construction.

Southbound 1 Street S.W. will be reduced to one lane between 9 Avenue S.W. and 10 Avenue S.W. this summer to accommodate the 1 Street S.W. underpass enhancement project. At the same time the sidewalk on southbound 1 Street S.W. will be closed. Pedestrians should use the sidewalk on the east side of 1 Street S.W. These closures will be in place until the work on the west side of the underpass is complete.

Crowchild/Flanders Ave Interchage

While the bulk of construction work for the Crowchild Trail/Flanders Avenue Interchange won't begin until September 2015, some initial work to prepare for the Interchange construction process will be underway in coming weeks. This update has been developed to provide as much advance notice as possible on anticipated construction impacts.

  • Beginning July 15, Caen Avenue (from the Currie Business Park entrance to Quesnay Wood Drive) is closed to allow for the utility work necessary for the Interchange construction. This stretch of Caen Avenue will be closed until late 2016. A temporary off-ramp provides access into the Currie Business Park, from Crowchild Trail South to Battleford Avenue.
  • Starting July 20, preparatory construction work will begin on Richard Road and eastbound Flanders Avenue. Traffic on Richard Road will be reduced to one lane in each direction (north and sound bound). Flagpeople will be onsite to help direct traffic, but drivers should expect some delays.

Also starting July 20, work will be underway on the new on-ramp for southbound Crowchild Trail. This work should not affect traffic flows.

Killarney-Glengarry Summerfest – Saturday, July 25 from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.

  • 28 Street S.W. is closed between 26 Avenue S.W. and 28 Avenue S.W.

Sun Rype Tri Kids Triathlon - Sunday, July 26 from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m.

  • 19 Street S.W. will be closed between 50 Avenue S.W. and 56 Avenue S.W.
  • Please obey all temporary traffic controls. Police will be on-site to monitor traffic.

Rocky Mountain Ironman 70.3 Calgary -Sunday, July 26 from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Motorists are advised to watch for cyclists and police along Glenmore Trail and Highway 22X, and obey all temporary traffic controls.

  • The right lane on 52 Street S.E. will be closed between Auburn Bay Avenue S.E. and Auburn Bay Drive S.E.
  • The right lane on Highway 22X will be closed from east of Macleod Trail to 6 Street S.W.
  • The ramp from southbound Macleod Trail onto westbound Highway 22X will be closed.
  • The ramp from southbound 6 Street S.W./Sherriff King Street S.W. onto westbound Highway 22X will be closed.
  • Left turns will be restricted from northbound Sheriff King Road S.W. onto Highway 22X.
  • The ramp from westbound Spruce Meadows Trail onto northbound James McKevitt Road S.W. will be closed.
  • The right lane will be closed on southbound James McKevitt Road S.W. at Spruce Meadows Trail.
  • The ramp from westbound Spruce Meadows Trail onto northbound 24 Street S.W. will be closed.
  • The ramp from eastbound Glenmore Trail onto southbound Discovery Ridge Boulevard S.W. will be closed.
  • The ramp from northbound Discovery Ridge Boulevard S.W. onto eastbound Glenmore Trail will be closed.
  • The right lane will be closed on Sarcee Trail between Glenmore Trail and 37 Street S.W.
  • Speed will be reduced to 60 km/h on Glenmore Trail between 101 Street S.W. and Sarcee Trail.
