Calgary road closures - August 15, 2014
Northeast
NEW: The right lane on northbound Crowchild Trail will be closed north of 5 Avenue N.W. from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, August 16 due to sound wall repair.
NEW: Kensington Road will be closed at 60 Street N.W. from 6 p.m. on Friday, August 15 to 5 a.m. on Monday, August 18 due to utility work.
NEW: The ramp from 36 Street N.E. to southbound 16 Avenue N.E. will be closed from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily on Saturday, August 16 and Sunday, August 17 due to construction. At the same time the ramp from westbound 16 Avenue N.E. onto 36 Street N.E. will be closed.
NEW: Southbound Falconridge Boulevard N.E. will be closed south of Saddletowne Circle from 7 a.m. on Sunday, August 17 to 6 a.m. on Tuesday, August 19 due to utility work. At this time two way traffic will be allowed in the northbound lanes.

There will be various lane closures on 36 Street N.E. between 16 Avenue N.E. and 32 Avenue N.E. from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily beginning Friday, August 1 until Tuesday, September 5 due to curb rehabilitation and paving.
The intersection of Skyview Ranch Road and 128 Avenue N.E. will be reduced to one lane in each direction starting Monday, July 28 until September 30 for utility work.
17 Avenue N.E. and 18 Avenue N.E. are closed at Edmonton Trail until late August due to the Edmonton Trail road reconstruction project.
Northwest
NEW: Bowness Road at 70 Street N.W. will be reduced to one eastbound lane from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, August 16 due to utility work. Motorists are advised to follow detour signs.
NEW: Montgomery Boulevard N.W. will be closed between Home Road N.W. and Montgomery Road N.W. from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, August 16 to accommodate the Bow View Manor annual Summer Fair.
20 Avenue N.W. will be closed between 17 Street S.W. and 18 Street S.W. from 7 p.m. on Friday, August 15 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, August 17 due to utility work.
Dalhousie Drive N.W. will be reduced to one lane in each direction between Dalrymple Way N.W. and Dalhousie Road N.W. from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily beginning Thursday, August 14 until Sunday, August 17 due to utility work.
There will be various centre lane closures on Memorial Drive between Centre Street and 14 Street N.W. from 9:15 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. daily beginning Tuesday, August 12 to Saturday, August 16 due to maintenance.
Northbound Crowchild Trail will be reduced to one lane at University Drive N.W. from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. nightly until Sunday, August 31 due to bridge deck repairs.
The right lanes on north and southbound Northland Drive N.W. will be closed throughout the summer due to bike lane improvements and road repaving.
Symons Valley Road is completely closed between 144 Avenue N.W. and Sage Meadow Circle. This closure is expected to last until December 2014. During this time, all heavy truck traffic will be detoured to Shaganappi Trail, and local traffic will be detoured via Sage Hill Drive to 144 Avenue N.W. Visit the webpage for further information.
Southeast
NEW: The left lane will be closed on northbound 24 Street S.E at 114 Avenue S.E. from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday, August 16. In addition, there will be various lane closures in all direction on Saturday, August 16 and Sunday, August 17 to allow for traffic signal relocation in preparation for intersection upgrades. Calgary Police Service will be on site Sunday, August 17 to assist with traffic control. The use of alternate routes is recommended as delays are expected.
NEW: The left lane on eastbound Glenmore Trail will be closed between 52 Street S.E. and Stoney Trail from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, August 16 to prepare roadway for paving. Speed in the area will be reduced to 50 km/h.
NEW: 52 Street S.E will be closed south of Peigan Trail from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, August 16 due to work related to the Peigan Trail extension project. Local traffic will be detoured to 36 Street S.E. to bypass the construction. Alternate routes such as Stoney Trail are recommended as delays are expected.
NEW: Ogden Road S.E. will be reduced to one lane in each direction at 80 Avenue S.E. from 8 a.m. on Monday, August 18 to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, August 19 due to utility work.
Extended: There will be various lane closures on Cushing Bridge (17 Avenue S.E. between 19 Street S.E. and Deerfoot Trail) from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly beginning Tuesday, August 5 until Friday, August 22 due to bridge rehabilitation work. At this time speed in the area will be reduced to 50 km/h.
Glenmore Trail will be reduced to two lanes in each direction east of Blackfoot Trail from 9 p.m. on Friday, August 8 to 5 a.m. on Monday, August 18 for road construction. At this time speed will be reduced to 60 km/h.
The two centre lanes will be closed on 5 Avenue at Centre Street until Sunday, August 17 due to utility work. At this time the crosswalk on the west side of Centre Street will be closed.
There will be various lane closures on 6 Avenue between 1 Street S.E. and Centre Street and on Centre Street at 6 Avenue from 6 p.m. on Wednesday, August 5 to 6 a.m. on Monday, August 18 due to utility work.
Westbound 130 Avenue S.E. will be closed between 52 Street S.E. and Copperpond Boulevard S.E. until Thursday, September 18 due to major utility work. The speed limit in the area will be reduced to 50 km/h. Residents are advised to use McIvor Boulevard S.E. to 52 Street S.E.
5 Street S.E. will be closed between 8 Avenue and 9 Avenue S.E. until August 17 for East Village construction.
There are various lane closures on 9 Avenue S.E. between 3 Street S.E. and 6 Street S.E. until the end of August. There are also various closures on 6 Street S.E. between 9 Avenue and 6 Avenue S.E. for East Village construction.
Southwest
NEW: Elbow Drive/26 Avenue S.W. will be closed between 4 Street S.W. and 5 Street S.W. from 7 p.m. on Sunday, August 17 to 5 a.m. on Monday, August 18 due to paving. At the same time 4 Street S.W. will be reduced to one lane in each direction at Elbow Drive/26 Avenue S.W. There will be flagmen on site directing traffic.
NEW: Elbow Drive will be reduced to one lane in each direction between 4 Street S.W. and Britannia Drive S.W. from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Sunday, August 17 due to road work.
NEW: There will be various lane closures on 17 Avenue S.W. between 33 Street S.W. and 14 Street S.W. from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily beginning Saturday, August 16 to Tuesday, September 2 dye to road paving.
NEW: 2 Street S.W. will be closed between 2 Avenue S.W. and 3 Avenue S.W. from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, August 16 due to building construction.
NEW: The left lane on 4 Avenue S.W. will be closed between 2 Street S.W. and 1 Street S.W. from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily beginning Monday, August 18 until Friday, August 22 and 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, August 23 due to building construction.
NEW: The two left lanes on 5 Street S.W. will be closed at 15 Avenue S.W. from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, August 16 due to signal installation. At the same time the 15 Avenue S.W. will be closed at 5 Street S.W.
5 Street S.W. will be closed between 6 Avenue S.W. and 7 Avenue S.W. from 7 p.m. on Friday, August 15 to 4 a.m. on Monday, August 18 due to LRT track replacement.
Northbound 14 Street S.W. will be reduced to one lane between 16 Avenue S.W. and 12 Avenue S.W. until 7 p.m., Friday, August 15 due to utility maintenance. Major traffic delays are expected in the morning and afternoon rush hours.
There will be various lane closures on westbound Glenmore Trail between 37 Street S.W. and Sarcee Trail from 9 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. nightly beginning Tuesday, August 12 to Saturday, August 16 due to maintenance work.
There will be various daily lane closures on Elbow Drive S.W. between 5 Street S.W. and Britannia Drive S.W. from beginning at 7 a.m. on weekends and 9 a.m. on weekdays from Sunday, August 10 to Saturday, August 16 due to road work.
The two centre lanes on 5 Avenue S.W. between 1 Street S.W. and Centre Street will be closed until Sunday, August 17 due to utility work.
The left lane and sidewalk are closed on 11 Avenue S.W. between 11 Street S.W. and 12 Street S.W. until Tuesday, September 30 due to building construction.
Special Events
The following road closures will be in effect to accommodate the GlobalFest International Fire Works Competition. All closures will be in effect on August 14, 16, 19, 21, and 23.
- 17 Avenue S.E. will be closed between 52 Street S.E. and 68 Street S.E. will be closed to all traffic from approximately 7:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. each evening.
- 23 Avenue S.E. be closed from 52 Street S.E. to 60 Street S.E. and 60 Street S.E. will be closed from 17 Avenue S.E. to 23 Avenue S.E. from 6 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. each evening.
- Hubalta Road / 21A Avenue will be closed from 52 Street S.E. to 17 Avenue S.E. from 6:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. each evening to accommodate parking.
- Access to businesses located along 17 Avenue S.E. between 52 Street S.E. and Hubalta Road will be available via 52 Street S.E. and 21A Avenue S.E. with a valid permit.
- Access for businesses located along 23 Avenue S.E. between 52 Street and 60 Street S.E., and 60 Street S.E. between 17 Avenue and 23 Avenue S.E. will be available via 52 Street S.E. with a valid permit.
Motorists will be directed to Memorial Drive via 68 Street S.E. (for westbound traffic) and 52 Street S.E. (for eastbound traffic) to bypass the closure. Signs will be posted to help direct traffic around the area. Delays are expected.
