Calgary Firefighters Respond to Two Alarm Fire in Sundance

Firefighters were called out this morning at 08:30 for a house fire on the 500 block of Sun Mills drive se. As crews arrived a second alarm was requested due to the amount of smoke and flame showing and the proximity of neighboring homes. A fire believed to have started outside at the rear of the home had spread up the outside wall and entered the attic space and in turn igniting the roof. Four people were home at the time of the fire. An adult male suffered smoke inhalation and a child with a known medical condition were treated and transported to hospital by AHS. An Arial Platform was deployed at the front of the home to attack the fire from above after interior Firefighters were called out of the structure due to possible collapse. With this the fire was quickly brought under control. Neighboring homes were evacuated as a precaution but were protected by firefighters and were not damaged. However, the primary structure was heavily damaged and will not be habitable. Investigators are on scene and will determine the cause as firefighters continue to monitor for hot spots.
