Calgary Fire Department Responds to House Fire in Chinook Park

At approximately 4:05 this afternoon, the Calgary Fire Department responded to a house fire in the 8000 block of 10 Street SW. Fire crews were met with visible smoke from the attic of the home. Upon investigation it was discovered that a fire from the barbeque at the rear of the house extended up the outside of the home, into the attic. High capacity fans were used to pressurize the house prior to firefighter entry. Additional resources were called as precaution until the fire was called under control. The fire was reported to 911 by the occupants who self evacuated prior to Calgary Fire arrival. All three occupants were examined by Alberta Health Services on scene, but required no treatment. ATCO gas and ENMAX were also on scene to shut down gas and power to the building. Calgary Police Service was also in attendance to assist with local traffic control. Fire crews remain at the incident checking for fire extension and hot spots.
