Calgary Fire Crews Battle Fire in Cranston

At approximately 11:00 this evening, the Calgary Fire Department was dispatched to a house fire in the 200 block of Cranford Park SE. Upon arrival fire crews were faced with a fully involved 2 story townhome style duplex with flames that were already impinging on the neighboring structures. A second alarm was called to provide additional man power and resources to the fire scene.

Firefighters worked quickly to set up large volume water streams to knock down the flames on the exposed homes, as well as the source structure. Due to the extent of the structural damage to the home of fire origin, an interior search was not possible.

Calgary Police Service confirmed that all occupants were safely accounted for and out of the home. Fire crews conducted air quality tests on many of the nearby homes to ensure those residences could be safely reoccupied. Atco Gas and Enmax were also on scene to assist with shutting off the utilities to the affected properties. Local traffic in the area was not affected.

A 35 year old male was transported by Alberta Health Services to hospital for precautionary reasons. Crews remain on scene to extinguish hot spots and will remain at the incident location throughout the night to maintain fire watch. The fire investigator is also on scene and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
