Calgary City Clerk’s Office launches two new improvements to website

In an effort to continuously improve the ability of Calgarians to participate in local government and more easily access meetings and decisions, The City Clerk’s Office has added more functionality to Calgary.ca.

These new improvements allow for greater search functionality of Council documents and the ability to live stream City Council meetings to mobile devices.

The live streaming will be launched on Monday, November 18, allowing citizens to live stream all Council and Committee meetings that are broadcast on Calgary.ca to their mobile devices. Council and Committee meeting mobile streaming is compatible with iOS, Android, Windows, and Blackberry devices.

Users can access mobile streaming by visiting Calgary.ca, searching Calgary City Council and tapping on “Start Mobile Stream.”

City Clerk Sue Gray says, “As part of improving our services and transforming government, The City has developed a mobile live streaming option for citizens who want to be able to keep up with Council and Committee meetings while on the go. Additionally, The City has updated our Council and Bylaw search function on Calgary.ca. These enhanced features improve civic engagement and transparency and make meetings and decisions easily available to citizens.”

Mobile streaming is only available for live video. Archived video is still available on Council and Committee records page on Calgary.ca and will continue to be available in Windows Media Player format.

The search function of Council and Committee meetings has been changed by improving the search of Council records between November 1969 and November 2010 and adding all City bylaws since 1884. Content since Nov 2010 continues to be available on the Council and Committee page on Calgary.ca 

This improved page features an updated keyword and filter for searching by:

  • Meeting type;
  • Date range; and,
  • By document type i.e. Final Bylaws, agendas, minutes and reports from Council meetings, Standing Policy Committee (SPC), or any other Committee type.

The new search page is available on Council and Committee meeting records page on Calgary.ca or directly at http://publicaccess.calgary.ca/searchCCProc/index.htm.
