Beltline community wants your ideas for public spaces

The City of Calgary and community partners are looking for ideas on how to improve public spaces in the Beltline community. Online engagement begins today at mybeltlinecommunity.com.

As part of the development permit process, developers in the Beltline have the opportunity to contribute to the Beltline Community Investment Fund (BCIF) in order to achieve higher density in the community.

“We look forward to hearing from Calgarians about what ideas they have to make the Beltline community an even better place,” says Dawn Thome, project manager at The City of Calgary’s Planning Department.  “These ideas will help us build a strategy for determining where the Investment Fund could be spent.”

The fund may be used to support big or small projects. Examples include:

  • streetscape improvements and enhancements (improved sidewalk and lighting);
  • park and open space redevelopment and improvements;
  • street trees;
  • street furniture (benches, bike racks, garbage/recycling containers);
  • public art;
  • the purchasing of land for the development of new parks and green spaces.

Through feedback received, we hope to gain valuable insight and creative ideas from residents, businesses and visitors to assist in determining where the BCIF can best be spent on public improvements within the Beltline.
