12 Avenue Cycle Track to open on June 2

The 12 Avenue portion of the cycle track network pilot project, from 11 Street west to 3 Street east, will be open to the public on Tuesday, June 2, 2015.

“The weather has been on our side and we were able to complete construction on this route more quickly than anticipated,” said Don Mulligan, Director of Transportation Planning. “We will be finishing work on the track today so we encourage people to begin using the track tomorrow morning. We’d like to remind Calgarians that the other pilot cycle track routes are under construction, so we ask that cyclists stay off those routes until construction is complete.” The rest of the routes will be open this month.

“The 12 Avenue roadway has changed, and we want everyone to get to their destinations safely,” continued Mulligan. “If you’re driving, biking or walking along 12 Avenue, remember to watch for new signs, signals and pavement markings. Be understanding and courteous to one another as we all get used to the changes on the roadway.”

The City appreciates your patience throughout construction of the pilot project and while we all adapt to the new roadway. We have already made adjustments to 12 Avenue for safer, easier travel for everyone. We have improved traffic light timing and have adjusted the lane markings to provide better flow on 12 Avenue at 1 Street S.W. We will continue to make adjustments over the course of the pilot.

We want to hear from you on how things are working. Whether you drive, walk or cycle, please contact 311 with your questions and feedback.
