Northeast

UPDATE: Reduced lanes northbound and southbound on Falconridge Boulevard N.E. at Taradale Drive N.E./Martindale Boulevard N.E. beginning on Tuesday, July 4 to Friday, September 8 on weekdays only from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Pedestrian detours will be indicated via signage. Closure is to accommodate construction.

NEW: Reduced alternating lanes on 11 Street N.E. between 49 Avenue N.E. and 57 Avenue N.E. beginning on Friday, August 18 at 7 a.m. to Monday, August 21 at 8 p.m. Closure is to accommodate paving.

Reduced lanes northbound and southbound on Barlow Trail N.E. between Country Hills Boulevard N.E. and 116 Avenue N.E. beginning on Monday, August 14 at 7 a.m. to Monday, August 21 at 7 p.m. Closure is to accommodate utility work.

Reduced lanes eastbound 16 Avenue at Edmonton Trail N.E. weekdays starting Thursday, July 13 until Friday, August 25 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. This work accommodates construction.

Reduced lane northbound on 52 Street N.E. at Whitehorn Drive N.E. / Temple Drive N.E. beginning on Monday, July 10 to Friday, September 1 on weekdays only daily from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Pedestrian detour will be indicated via signage. Closure is to accommodate construction.

Reduced lane northbound on 52 Street N.E. at Temple Drive N.E. / 44 Avenue N.E. beginning on Tuesday, July 4 to Wednesday, August 30 (subject to change) on weekdays only from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Closure is to accommodate construction.

Reduced northbound and southbound lanes on Falconridge Boulevard N.E. at Taradale Drive N.E. weekdays only from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 P.M. beginning on Tuesday, June 27 to Thursday, September 7. Pedestrian detour indicated via signage. This closure is to accommodate transit construction work.

Northwest

NEW: Road closure on Northmount Drive N.W. between Collingwood Place N.W. beginning on Saturday, August 19 at 6 a.m. to Sunday, August 20 at 7 p.m. There will be restricted parking on Collingwood Place N.W. and vehicle detour indicated via signage. Closure is to accommodate emergency utility work.

16 Avenue N.W. at 29 Street N.W. / Uxbridge Drive N.W. will see various lane closures until the end of October, 2017 as part of an intersection improvement project.

16 Ave NW / Bowfort Road Interchange Improvements

  • Daily lane reductions on Bowfort Road N.W. and 16 Avenue N.W. through the project limits from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. until further notice. For more information on this project, visit the project page.

Stoney Trail/ Sarcee Trail Interchange Improvements

  • Daily lane reductions on Sarcee Trail N.W. and 16 Avenue N.W. through the project limits from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. until further notice. For more information on this project, visit the project page.

NEW: 16 Avenue and Home Road N.W. Upgrades

Please note that the following lane closures are in effect until the end of SeptemberWestbound traffic:

  • Monday to Friday from 6 a.m. – 3 p.m.: The westbound left-hand lane will be closed
  • Saturdays from Noon – 6 p.m.: The westbound left-hand lane will be closed

Eastbound traffic:

  • Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.: The eastbound left-hand lane will be closed
  • Saturdays from 6 a.m. – Noon: The eastbound left-hand lane will be closed

To avoid delays please consider using Bowness Road N.W. as an alternate route to bypass the construction area

Southeast

NEW: Road closure on 40 Street S.E. at 72 Avenue S.E. with eastbound and westbound lanes reduced on 72 Avenue S.E. at 40 Street S.E. beginning on Saturday, August 19 at 6 a.m. to Sunday, August 20 at 7 p.m. Pedestrian access will be prohibited with vehicle detour indicated via signage. Closure is to accommodate emergency utility work.

NEW: Road closure on 3 Street S.E. between 9 Avenue S.E. and 7 Avenue S.E. with southbound lane on 3 Street S.E. closed at 6 Avenue S.E. on Sunday, August 20 from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Access to Lot 47 will be available at all times from 9 Avenue S.E. Vehicle detour indicated via signage. Closure is to accommodate jersey barrier removal.

NEW: Road closure on Heritage Drive S.E. between 77 Avenue S.E. and eastbound on-ramp at Glenmore Trail S.E. beginning on Sunday, August 20 to Thursday, August 24 nightly from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Closure is to accommodate paving.

Road closure on 8 Avenue S.E. between 5 Street S.E. and 6 Street S.E. with access to local traffic only beginning on Monday, August 14 at 7 a.m. to Saturday, August 19 at 7 p.m. Closure is to accommodate excavation and utility work. Use alternate routes.

Reduced lane northbound on Centre Street S, on top deck of Centre Street Bridge between Riverfront Avenue S.E. and Samis Road N.E. beginning on Saturday, August 12 to Monday, August 21 on weekdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and on weekends from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Pedestrian access will be restricted on the northbound side of bridge. Closure is to accommodate overhead utility work.

Reduced lane northbound on 18 Street S.E. between Riverglen Drive S.E. and Riverbirch Crescent S.E. beginning on Monday, August 14 to Monday, November 6 weekdays only from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Closure is to accommodate construction.

Reduced lane eastbound on 17 Avenue S.E. between 19 Street S.E. and Deerfoot Trail S.E. on Cushing Bridge beginning on Thursday, August 10 at 7 a.m. to Tuesday, October 31 at 7 p.m. Speeds will be reduced to 50 km/h through the work area. Flagman will be onsite to direct traffic. Closure is to accommodate construction.

Reduced lane southbound on 18 Street S.E. between Douglas Glen Boulevard S.E. and 24 Street S.E. beginning on Thursday, August 3 to Monday, September 18 weekdays daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Speeds will be reduced to 50 km/h through the work area. Closure is to accommodate construction.

Road closure southbound on 3 Street S.E. between 6 Avenue S.E. and 7 Avenue S.E. with reduced northbound lanes beginning on Tuesday, June 20 at 12:00 a.m. until Friday, September 1 at 6 p.m. Vehicle and pedestrian detours indicated via signage. This closure accommodates construction.

NEW: Macleod Trail S Bridge Rehab Project (1 street S.E. and 18 Ave S.E.)

  • Work is being done to replace Elbow River Bridge infrastructure and asphalt on bridge deck. Two lanes southbound will be open at all times. Three lanes southbound will be open from 3 to 6 p.m. on weekdays to accommodate rush hour traffic. Lane closures will be in place until August 25.

Southwest

NEW: Reduced lane northbound on 37 Street S.W. between 33 Avenue S.W. and 46 Avenue S.W. on Saturday, August 19 from 5 a.m. to 8 p.m. Closure is to accommodate paving.

NEW: Reduced lane northbound and southbound on Richmond Road S.W. at 37 Street S.W. on Saturday, August 19 from 5 a.m. to 7 a.m. Closure is to accommodate paving.

NEW: Reduced lane southbound on 8 Street S.W. between 15 Avenue S.W. and 17 Avenue S.W. beginning on Monday, August 21 to Friday, August 25 daily from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Closure is to accommodate construction work.

Various reduced lanes on 5 Street S.W. between 6 Avenue S.W. and 8 Avenue S.W. beginning Wednesday, August 16 to Saturday, August 19 nightly from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. Cycle track and pedestrian detours indicated via signage. Close is to accommodate overhead plus fifteen work.

Road closure on 17 Avenue S.W. between 1 Street S.E. and 2 Street S.E. with closure on 1 Street S.W. between 15 Avenue S.W. and 17 Avenue S.W. beginning on Saturday, August 5 at 7 a.m. to Sunday, October 1 at 7 p.m. Restricted parking will also be in place on 17 Avenue S.E. with vehicle detours indicated via signage. Closures are to accommodate construction.

17 Avenue S. reconstruction project

  • UPDATE: Reduced lanes westbound on 17 Avenue S.E. between 1 Street S.E. and Macleod Trail S.E. beginning on Monday, July 17 at 7 a.m. to Sunday, October 1 at 7 p.m. Although closed to through westbound traffic, access to local traffic and businesses will remain. Parking restrictions will be in place through work area. Vehicle and pedestrian detours will be indicated via signage. Closure is to accommodate construction.
  • UPDATE: Reduced lanes westbound on 17 Avenue S.E. between Centre Street S.E. and 1 Street S.E. beginning on Monday, July 17 at 7 a.m. to Sunday, October 1 at 7 p.m. Although closed to through westbound traffic, access to local traffic and businesses will remain. Parking restrictions will be in place through work area. Vehicle and pedestrian detours will be indicated via signage. Closure is to accommodate construction.
  • Road closure on 17 Avenue S.E. between 1 Street S.W. and Centre Street S.E. beginning on Monday, July 17 at 7 a.m. to Sunday, October 1 at 7 p.m. Access will be open to local traffic only. Vehicle detours will be indicated via signage.
  • 17 Avenue will be closed to traffic between Macleod Trail and Centre Street starting May 19.

Alberta Transportation

Alberta Transportation maintains Deerfoot Trail (Hwy.2) and Stoney Trail (Hwy. 201). For more information on work happening on these roads visit Alberta Transportation’s website.

Southwest Ring Road Project

Special Events

Country Thunder – Friday, August 18 at 6 a.m. to Tuesday, August 22 at 6 p.m.

54 Avenue N.E. will be closed between Westwinds Drive N.E. and 44 Street N.E.

  • There will be restricted parking at this location to accommodate vehicles and equipment required to complete the setup and takedown of the event grounds.
  • Vehicle detours will be indicated via signage.

Globalfest International Fireworks Competition

The following road closures will be in effect to accommodate the GlobalFest International Fire Works Competition. All closures will be in effect on August 15, 17, 19, 22, 24, and 26.

  • 17 Avenue S.E. will be closed between 52 Street S.E. and 68 Street S.E. will be closed to all traffic from approximately 7:00 p.m. to midnight each evening.
  • 23 Avenue S.E. be closed from 52 Street S.E. to 60 Street S.E. and 60 Street S.E. will be closed from 17 Avenue S.E. to 23 Avenue S.E. from 6 p.m. to midnight each evening.
  • Hubalta Road / 21A Avenue will be closed from 52 Street S.E. to 17 Avenue S.E. from 6:00 p.m. to midnight each evening to accommodate parking.

Motorists will be directed to Memorial Drive via 68 Street S.E. (for westbound traffic) and 52 Street S.E. (for eastbound traffic) to bypass the closure. Signs will be posted to help direct traffic around the area.

Motorists are to observe all traffic controls advising of this closure. Major delays are expected. The Transportation Department would like to thank motorists and local residents for their patience and understanding throughout this event.

Business access

  • Access for businesses located along 17 Avenue S.E between 52 Street S.E. and Hubalta Road S.E. will be available via 52 Street S.E. and 21A Avenue S.E with a valid permit.
  • Access for business located along 23 Avenue S.E. between 52 Street S.E. and 60 Street S.E. and 60 Street S.E. between 17 Avenue S.E. and 23 Avenue S.E. available via 52 Street S.E. and 23 Avenue S.E. with a valid permit.
