Update: Police Investigate Fatal Collision
The Calgary Police Service has one person in custody in connection with this morning’s fatal collision.
At approximately 6:55 a.m., today, Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2013, emergency crews responded to reports of a pedestrian that had been hit by at least two vehicles at the intersection of Sandstone Drive and Berkshire Boulevard N.W. Both vehicles left the scene.
The pedestrian, a woman in her mid-50s, died at the scene. She has been identified and investigators are in the process of notifying her family.
Police are still looking for one vehicle believed involved in the collision. The description of this vehicle has slightly modified since this morning. The vehicle is a dark-coloured sedan with damage to the lower part of the front bumper.
At around 7:45 a.m., police received a call from a man claiming to have also been involved in the collision. The man has since been arrested and charges are pending.
His name will be released after he has seen a Justice of the Peace. The man's vehicle, a red Ford Taurus station wagon, has been seized and will undergo further testing.
