Update: No Snow Route Parking Ban

City crews have been continuously maintaining roadways to address the more than 20 centimetres of snow that hit Calgary starting early Sunday morning.

 

The snow began to lighten and stop in most parts of the city as of 6 p.m. yesterday. This allowed crews to clear major routes for the morning commute.

 

The City is not calling a ban at this time because crews continue to make significant progress, and stay proactive due to warmer road surface and air temperatures. This allowed for City crews to move into feeder and bus routes, or Priority 2 Routes this afternoon, earlier than expected.

 

Although a Snow Route Parking Ban is not currently in place, Calgarians are encouraged to move their cars off the roads to assist City crews. Now that crews have begun to work their way from the commuter routes onto the lower priority routes and residential communities, this is where having vehicles off the road will be especially helpful.

 

After tomorrow’s commute, The City will reassess road conditions and provide an update regarding the necessity of a Snow Route Parking Ban. The City recognizes that Snow Route Parking Bans are an inconvenience and will only call a Ban when absolutely necessary.
