Symons Valley Road to close for 6 months

Beginning June 16, 2014, Symons Valley Road will be completely closed between 144 Avenue N.W. and Sage Meadow Circle. This closure is expected to last until December 2014.

During this time, crews will work on upgrading Symons Valley Road so the road can accommodate future residential development.

The closure of Symons Valley Road will be impactful in the short term to both the trucking industry and residents in the area; however the longer-term benefits will outweigh the inconvenience. The City looked at a number of alternatives to closing the road, but the full closure will allow this work to be completed as quickly and safely as possible.

Once completed, Symons Valley Road will be equipped to handle the rapidly growing needs of the community, and will be 50 per cent closer to final completion. The road will ultimately be widened to two lanes in each direction.

During construction, residents living in Sage Meadows Circle, Sage Meadows Way, and Sage Meadows Terrace will continue to have localized access via Symons Valley Road. All otherlocal traffic will be detoured via Sage Hill Drive to 144 Avenue NW, and heavy truck traffic will be detoured to Shaganappi Trial.
