Students Win HAWC Landing

Students at St. Rita School in the city’s northwest will be treated to a special HAWC helicopter landing at their school on Wednesday.

Ms. Vicky McInnis’ Grade 5 and 6 students at St. Rita School are the winners of an online contest hosted by the Calgary Police Service Cops for Kids About Face Program, in partnership with Impact Society. The contest asked students to share how they would use their abilities to change themselves, their school, their community and their households.

“I know I can make a difference by changing the way I act and the way I see others. About Face helped me realize what I’m all about! I now know the gifts and abilities I share are; leading others, playing soccer, helping break down walls, and supporting others. I have gifts and abilities and a desire to succeed.” Grade 5 student, St. Rita School.

At noon on Wednesday, June 12, 2013, the students will be treated to a pizza party, and the chance to watch the CPS HAWC helicopter land in their school’s field.

The About Face Program delivers a dynamic, interactive, preventative education presentation for Grades 5 to 9 in partnership with the Impact Society. The program also serves as a diversion program for youths aged 12 to 18, whose behavior has brought them into conflict with authority.

Ms. McInnis’ students were involved in the preventative education program to learn about strength of character, confidence and the effects of crime.
