Stephen Avenue intersection pavement rehabilitation

City crews will continue work on the restoration of the road surface along Stephen Avenue this weekend by replacing deteriorated concrete, brick and asphalt at the Centre Street, 1 Street S.W. and 2 Street S.W. intersections.

 

Construction work will continue, weather permitting, on Friday, August 9 and on the following days:

 

 

Parking and lane restrictions will be in effect on multiple streets in and around the area during construction.  

 

“No Parking” signs will be placed approximately 12 hours before parking restrictions begin. Transit routes along this road will maintain regular scheduled service during construction.

 

Regular maintenance and upgrading is an important part of improving the safety and extending the life-cycle of our roadways. When more extensive repair methods are required, pavement rehabilitation is carried out through pavement rehabilitation or the Surface Overlay Paving program.

Paving is prioritized based on specific guidelines for road conditions. Roads that experience high traffic volumes need proactive rehabilitation to maintain the safety of the road as well as increase its service life. Performing preventative construction can avoid hazards like potholes, cracks and frost heaves and lessen the need for continuous maintenance.
