State of Local Emergency - Update 4 a.m., Tuesday, June 25

The City of Calgary remains in a state of local emergency due to significant flooding. Safety remains the number one priority for the Calgary Emergency Management Agency (CEMA) and partner agencies.

 

 

 

Residential garbage collection will continue as usual in communities not impacted by flooding. Only materials in black carts will be collected. No items outside the carts or additional garbage bags will be collected. Garbage bins are available in areas affected by the flood. Starting June 24^th residents in flooded communities can leave large items and garbage bags on their front lawn for collection.

 

Blue cart collection has been suspended until further notice in all communities in Calgary. Please store recyclable materials until collection resumes or take recyclables to the community recycling depots if necessary.

 

Landfill hours have been extended and tipping fees will be waived for citizens disposing flood related waste. Please visit Calgary.ca for information regarding garbage collection in flood impacted communities.

 

 

Calgary’s water quality remains good and tap water remains safe to drink. Flooding and spring runoff has caused silt and organic material to enter our water supply, resulting in a different taste and odour. There is no need to boil water and treatment plants are fully operational, however we must continue to conserve water.  

 

 

As the Municipal Complex remains closed, two temporary service centres will open to the public Tuesday, June 25. Hours of operation are from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

For Inspections, continue to call 3-1-1. Only flood related requests will be processed until further notice.

Re-entry  

Residents who have returned home need to exercise caution with water and electricity, and with carbon monoxide if they are running pumps or generators. Residents must visit a re-entry information centre for guidance on doing a home assessment prior to accessing their home. Please visit Calgary.ca for re-entry site locations. Centres will be open 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. until further notice.

 

All Fitness and Aquatic Centres are open with the exception of the Beltline Pool, Southland Leisure Centre and Village Square Leisure Centre.  

We want to thank Calgarians for their continued cooperation and patience as we continue to assess and recover from the flooding.

 

CTrain service along 7^th Avenue downtown will resume in time for the morning commute, however, we’re asking that citizens avoid travel to the downtown core Tuesday to allow important clean-up and repair work to continue.

 

Please note that trains will not stop at the City Hall Station (eastbound and westbound platforms), Centre Street Station and 1 Street SW Station because there currently is no power to those facilities.
