Southland Drive closure update

Commuters are being advised that due to an emergency utility repair, westbound Southland Drive will remain closed between Macleod Trail and Haddon Road until further notice.

Elbow Drive has also  been reduced to one lane in each direction between 58 Avenue S.W. and Bel Aire Drive.  

Motorist travelling to the southwest corners of the city encouraged take Heritage Drive or Anderson Road via Macleod Trail or Deerfoot Trail to avoid both these closures.

In consideration of the impacts these closures, The City of Calgary Roads has made adjustments to better assist traffic flow in the area, such as adjusting the timing of the signals on a number of roadways, including Anderson Road, Heritage Drive, Macleod Trail, Bonaventure Drive, and Elbow Drive. There is also Variable Message Signs (VMS) along key roadways such as Deerfoot Trail, to advise motorists to take alternate routes.

Please note that due to the above mentioned road closures several bus routes have been impacted, including Routes 39, 79, 80, 81.

Due to eastbound Southland drive being closed, – Routes 39, 80, 81 will follow this detour:

South on Southport Road SW
East on 99 Avenue SW
North on Macleod Trail SE to regular route

Due to westbound Southland Drive being closed – Routes 39,79 and 81 will follow this detour:

South on Macleod Trail
West on  99 Avenue SW
North on Southport Road
West on Southland Drive to regular route
