Snow Route Parking Ban: Update

All available Roads crews continue to work round the clock maintaining Calgary’s road network to keep Calgarians moving after Monday’s blizzard.

A Snow Route parking ban was declared the morning of Wednesday, December 4 at 9 a.m. to help our crews clear Priority 2 routes as efficiently and safely as possible. As of last night, approximately 22 per cent of Priority 2 routes had been completed across the city. Due to significant accumulations of snow and high drifting across Calgary, the Snow Route parking ban will continue through today and could extend into the evening while crews address these issues. Updates will be provided through out the day. 

This is the fifth Snow Route parking ban The City has called. To date, the longest Ban occurred on January 11, 2013 for 36 hours, where Calgary saw 24 cm with weather conditions significantly milder than this week’s severe snow storm. During this week's storm crews have reported drifts of up to eight feet tall in some areas. City Roads crews maintain approximately 15,000 lane kilometres with over half of Calgary’s lane kilometres designated as Priority 1 and 2 routes, Priority 1 and 2 routes include major roadways, bus routes, collector routes and Snow Routes.

The parking ban supports snow plowing operations by removing parked vehicles from the streets, and allowing crews to clear snow from Calgary roads quicker. If you live on a Snow Route, we ask that you move your car, so that our crews can clear your street faster. This will allow them to get to residential roads quicker.
