Snow and Ice Control: Update

Dedicated City Roads crews have worked round the clock to make every road in the northeast communities passable to meet today’s deadline. The northeast part of the city was hit hardest by the past few snow storms, where Calgary received overall approximately 43 centimetres of snow. Crews have removed significant amounts of snow from northeast communities, hauling out just over 2,000 truckloads or 22,000 tonnes of snow over the past few weeks. Now that residential roadways in the northeast are passable, additional snow removal resources that were allocated to this area, will now be distributed across the city to assist with snow removal in other communities.

Both City and contracted crews will continue to work on maintaining Priority 1 and 2 routes throughout the city. As of 1 p.m. today, Priority 2 routes are 42 per cent complete. Due to the warmer road surface temperatures, crews are distributing salt across roadways to help melt snow and ice.

Safety of Calgarians is our number one concern and it has been confirmed that all 40 stations city wide are able to access residents.
