Serious injury collision between a pedestrian and a Light Rail Transit (C-Train) train at the 58 AVE X Centre ST south crossing.

At approximately 22:50hrs on Friday December 12th 2014, a serious injury collision occurred between a pedestrian and a Light Rail Transit (C-Train) train at the 58 AVE  X Centre ST South crossing.

A southbound (outbound) C Train was approaching the crossing. The lights barriers and gongs were operating.

The driver of the C Train approached the crossing and observed the victim crossing the tracks. The driver initiated emergency braking.

The pedestrian, an 18 year old male, crossed westbound from the north east corner of the intersection out of the crosswalk, and was struck by the front right corner of the C Train.

The pedestrian was projected towards the south west corner of the intersection, coming to rest approximately 15 meters from where he was struck.

The C Train came to rest Approximately 26 meters from where the pedestrian was struck.

The Pedestrian suffered significant injuries which were determined to be life threatening and was transported to the Foothills Medical Center by land ambulance.

The driver of the C Train was not injured as a result of the collision. No passengers reported being injured as a result of the trains emergency braking.

The pedestrian appears to have been under the influence of alcohol at the time of the collision.

Excessive speed on behalf of the C Train, is not being considered a factor in this collision
