Seeking Public Assistance - Child Accosted

The Calgary Police Service is seeking public assistance in identifying a man who accosted a child as she walked to school.

This morning at approximately 9 a.m., the 11-year-old was walking alone near 33 Avenue and 45 Street S.W., when she was grabbed from behind. The offender allegedly pulled the girl by her shoulders and after a brief struggle she was able to break free and run to a nearby school.

The offender did not speak during the incident and due to the briefness of the encounter the victim was unable to give investigators a thorough description. It’s believed the offender was wearing black gloves and a black jacket.

The Calgary Police Service encourages parents to talk to their children about ways to protect themselves. This includes walking in pairs, staying in busy, well-lit areas and if they are suspicious of someone, trust their instincts and flee the area, or scream to draw attention to themselves.
