Seeking Public Assistance - Arsons
The Calgary Police Service is seeking public assistance in identifying the person(s) responsible for several intentionally set fires.
On Sunday, Oct. 13, 2013, emergency crews responded to two separate fires in the southwest community of Braeside.
In the first case, a fire was set in a recycle bin outside a home in the 700 block of Brookpark Drive S.W. The fire jumped to a neighbouring home, causing considerable damage to the home and a vehicle.
One hour later, a second fire was reported in the 10100 block of Brookpark Boulevard S.W. A ground-floor condo had its rear deck and siding completely engulfed in flames.
A quick-thinking neighbour ran to alert the home owner and tried to put out the fire.
During the investigation, it was determined four other ground-floor patios had been entered and in three cases the barbecues turned on and the covers lit on fire.
The intentional tampering with both propane cylinders and barbecues in most of the ground-level patios made the potential for this fire to have been deadly to both occupants and first responders.
The Service is asking the community to be diligent in calling in any suspicious activity in the overnight hours.
