School Program Implemented City Wide

The Calgary Board of Education, the Calgary Catholic School District, the Calgary Police Service and Mount Royal University’s Centre for Child Well-Being are pleased to announce the city-wide implementation of Start Smart Stay Safe (S4).

The first program of its kind in Canada, S4 brings police officers and teachers together in the classroom to talk about significance, self-awareness, success and service, and connects parents and families to this unique and transformative learning experience.

The successful conclusion of the three-year pilot program and full city-wide launch will be celebrated at the THRIVE! The Start Smart Stay Safe (S4) Journey conference. This conference will take place on Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2013, at Mount Royal University. Keynote speakers Dr. Michael Ungar and Troy Payne will speak to attendees about resilience among children, youth and families and how they survive adversity.

There will also be an evening presentation on Monday, Sept. 16, with Dr. Michael Ungar, which he will discuss how parents, caregivers, families and community members all play an important role in keeping our communities safe.
