Sarcee Trail S.W. scheduled for pavement rehabilitation

On the weekend of Saturday, September 7 City of Calgary crews will repave the road surface of Sarcee Trail S.W. from Glenmore Trail S.W./Highway 8 to Richmond Road S.W. as part of The City’s Surface Overlay Paving program. This work is weather dependent and to allow for an uninterrupted course for the Tour of Alberta cycle race the construction will end by 12:30 p.m. Sunday; however, the road will remain closed to traffic until 2 p.m. for the surfaces to finish cooling.

 

   

Regular maintenance and upgrading is an important part of improving the safety and extending the life-cycle of our roadways. When more extensive repair methods are required, pavement rehabilitation is carried out through pavement rehabilitation or the Surface Overlay Paving program.

Paving is prioritized based on specific guidelines for road conditions. Roads that experience high traffic volumes need proactive rehabilitation to maintain the safety of the road as well as increase its service life. Performing preventative construction can avoid hazards like potholes, cracks and frost heaves and lessen the need for continuous maintenance.
