Roads Crews are ready for snow

According to Environment Canada, flurries will fly early overnight and into Thursday morning with an estimated 1 to 3 centimetres of snow expected by Friday. Although, the amount of snow is insignificant, warm road temperatures and cold air temperatures could cause roadways to be slick and slippery.

City forces are prepared for the forecasted snow with all available crews and equipment ready to fend off the flurries. Crews will be spreading salt on Priority 1 and 2 routes, as well as trouble spots like bridge decks and on and off ramps to help prevent ice from forming on roadways.

Drivers are reminded to drive according to winter conditions and to take the following steps before beginning their commute: 

• Clean snow and ice off your vehicle and ensure your lights and your windows are clear.
• Give yourself extra time to reach your destination.
• Reduce your speed and turn on your headlights.
• Drive defensively.
• Leave extra distance between you and the car ahead of you.
• Fill up your windshield washer fluid.
• When road conditions are difficult, consider using Calgary Transit.
• Consider delaying your trip until the roads are in better condition.
