Pedestrian fatality

The Calgary Police Service Traffic Section is investigating a fatality involving a pedestrian and a CTrain that occurred this morning.

At approximately 6:35 a.m., on Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2013, a CTrain was travelling southbound from the downtown core, entering the tunnel on its approach to the Victoria Park/Stampede LRT station, in the1600 block of Macleod Trail S.W.

While in the tunnel, the train collided with a man, believed to be in his 60s, who was walking southbound between the tracks of the southbound line.

The train came to a halt after the collision and emergency crews attended the scene. The man was confirmed deceased by EMS.

It is not known what the man was doing in the tunnel, as he was not authorized to be there.
