Pedestrian bridge installation - Crowchild Trail closed overnight - June 26 and 27
Although many City projects have been put on hold so resources can be channelled into flood recovery, the installation of pedestrian bridges needs to proceed on the NW CTrain extension. If The City delayed the placement of these bridges, it would be too great a cost in terms of money and time for the project.
Two 40-metre pedestrian bridges will be lifted into place over Crowchild Trail during the overnight hours of June 26 and 27. The south side bridge will be lifted into place and secured overnight on June 26 and the north side bridge will be installed on June 27. The pedestrian bridges will link the new Tuscany CTrain station with the soon-to-be-started Park and Ride lots for the NW CTrain extension serving the communities of Tuscany, Rocky Ridge and Royal Oak.
Crowchild Trail will be closed one way each night to accommodate the crane needed to lift the structures into place. The road closures are scheduled for the evening hours to reduce impact on traffic. Traffic will be detoured around the closure. (Please view the detour maps here.)
- To install the south pedestrian bridge, Crowchild Trail travelling east will be closed from 12 Mile Coulee Road to Stoney Trail from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. on June 26.
- To install the north pedestrian bridge, Crowchild Trail travelling west will be closed from Stoney Trail to 12 Mile Coulee Road from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. on June 27.
If a bridge cannot be installed because of weather or other site conditions, the bridge will be installed the following night.
The structure of the new LRT station, called Tuscany Station, is now clearly visible in the median of Crowchild Trail. The project is on track to open for transit users in fall 2014.

Media who wish to film the installation of the bridges overnight can use the east end of the North West Family Church Parking lot at 10307 Eamon Rd. N.W. No one will be allowed in the construction area because of safety regulations.
