Pavement rehabilitation work planned for the weekend

On Saturday, September 21 and Sunday, September 22 City of Calgary crews will continue the Surface Overlay Paving process on 11 Street S.W. from 5 Avenue to 11 Avenue and 17 Avenue S.W. from 33 Street to east of 35 Street, respectively. This work is weather dependant and will require several road closures and lane restrictions. 
  • 17 Avenue S.W. between 33 Street to east of 35 Street will be reduced to one lane in each direction from 4 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, September 22. 
Detours will be in place, please use caution while passing crews. 
  • 11 Street S.W. between 11 Avenue S.W. and 9 Avenue S.W. will be closed from 4 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 21. There will also be no right turns onto 11 Street S.W. from 9 Avenue or 11 Avenue S.W. during these times. 
  • 11 Street S.W. between 6 Avenue S.W. and 9 Avenue S.W. will be closed from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, September 21. The Kerby Centre access will be provided via the alleyway off 10 Street S.W. There will also be no left turns onto 11 Street S.W. from 6 Avenue S.W. or 9 Avenue S.W. during these times.
  • 11 Street S.W. between 5 Avenue S.W. and 6 Avenue S.W. will be closed from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, September 21.
During construction detours will be set up, please watch for signage.
   
“No Parking” signs will be placed approximately 12 hours before parking restrictions begin. Transit routes along this road will maintain regular scheduled service during construction.
 
Regular maintenance and upgrading is an important part of improving the safety and extending the life-cycle of our roadways. When more extensive repair methods are required, pavement rehabilitation is carried out through pavement rehabilitation or the Surface Overlay Paving program.

Paving is prioritized based on specific guidelines for road conditions. Roads that experience high traffic volumes need proactive rehabilitation to maintain the safety of the road as well as increase its service life. Performing preventative construction can avoid hazards like potholes, cracks and frost heaves and lessen the need for continuous maintenance.
