Pavement rehabilitation along Elbow Drive between 69 Avenue S.W. and Anderson Road S.W. begins

Please be advised that crews began pavement rehabilitation along Elbow Drive between 69 Avenue S.W. and Anderson Road S.W. on Tuesday, June 11.

 

This work will progress in phases of construction along sections of the roadway. First crews will address concrete repairs, identifying, removing and replacing damaged and deteriorated curb, gutter, medians and pedestrian ramps. Crews will then move to the second phase of construction where they mill the top level of the road surface, level manholes and catch basins and finally complete the paving process by placing a fresh layer of asphalt on the road surface.

 

This work is weather dependent and will take place in off-peak hours and in off-peak travel directions. Milling will occur between Anderson Road S.W. and Southland Drive S.W. on the weekend of June 22, between Southland Drive S.W. and Heritage Drive S.W. on the weekend of June 29 and from Heritage Drive S.W. to 69 Avenue S.W. on the weekend of July 6.

 

Paving work is schedule to occur between Anderson Road S.W. and Southland Drive S.W. during the week of June 24 – 28, between Southland Drive S.W. and Heritage Drive S.W. on the week of July 1 – 5 and between Heritage Drive and 69 Avenue S.W. on the week of July 8 – 12.

 

When possible, crews will work into the evening in order to complete the job quickly and efficiently. Parking and lane restrictions will be in effect on multiple streets in and around the area during construction.

 

Up-to-date traffic restrictions and detours regarding this construction work will be available at Calgary.ca/trafficinfo. 

 

“No Parking” signs will be placed approximately 12 hours before parking restrictions begin. If possible, transit routes along these roads will maintain regular scheduled service during construction.

 

Regular maintenance and upgrading is an important part of maintaining the safety and extending the lifecycle of our roadways. When more extensive repair methods are required, pavement rehabilitation is carried out through pavement rehabilitation or the Surface Overlay Paving program.

Paving is prioritized based on specific guidelines for road conditions. Roads that experience high traffic volumes need proactive rehabilitation to maintain the safety of the road as well as to extend its service life. Performing preventative construction can avoid hazards like potholes, cracks and frost heaves and lessen the need for more invasive maintenance.
