New taxi zones for the 2013 Calgary Stampede

Calgary, July 5, 2013 - Great news for Calgary Stampede visitors, this year new taxi zones have been added at the north and south entrances of Stampede Park. This will allow more taxis to queue at the on site taxi stands, giving Stampede-goers another reason to Yahoo!
"The City of Calgary has partnered with the Taxi and Limousine Advisory Committee, the Calgary Parking Authority and our friends at the Calgary Stampede to improve the travel experience for Stampede patrons and taxi customers," said Marc Halat, Manager of Compliance Services at The City of Calgary.
The plan to enhance the flow of taxi and limousine traffic includes: additional waiting zones for customer pick-up, moving the north entrance taxi stand to the east end of 14 Avenue SE (along 5 Street SE) and creating a taxi and limousine only exit east along 14 Avenue SE.
Taxi waiting zones are located along 12 Avenue SE and 5 Street SE to 14 Avenue SE at the north entrance and within the parking area near the south entrance of the Calgary Stampede grounds. Taxi waiting zones will be available 24 hours a day from July 5 to July 14, 2013.
Another detail The City has included in this year's' Stampede taxi plan is to set up a temporary prayer and worship space close to the Stampede grounds for those taxi drivers who observe Ramadan. The space will be set up for drivers only and will allow them to incorporate their worship more easily into their work day over Stampede.
"While the new taxi zones will improve the flow of Stampede taxi traffic, there will be a high demand for taxis during the next ten days," warns Jonathan Campbell, Chair of the Taxi and Limousine Advisory Committee. "We recommend that Calgarians and visitors plan their ride options ahead of time when attending Stampede events".
